Re: Bringing up an annual Thanksgiving theme thread....

I kind of do half and half.  The food I want piping hot, I keep in the oven or on the stove, but things like cranberry and salads, rolls, butter, etc.

Honestly, a table can be set beautifully, but by the time a plates half eaten---it ain't so pretty anymore.

Lots of up and down anyway with little ones wanting this or that---and that's okay.

A totally different setting would be dinner with friends, neighbors or even a company dinner--to keep a good conversation going--no interruptions.

But Thursday is Thanksgiving and this is family.

Re: Bringing up an annual Thanksgiving theme thread....

I always set up a buffet.  I can't stand to sit at a crowded table of food and pass things back and forth.  Everyone is free to get up at any time and get seconds or thirds and eat at their own pace.

I set up all the food on the island.  I keep the rolls and butter, salt/pepper,  and the water pitcher on the table.

I have a pretty centeriece and candles on the table.

Depending on how many people are here, I have to have 2 or 3 tables set up.  That's why it's just easier to do a buffet.

Re: Bringing up an annual Thanksgiving theme thread....

We had 8 children aged 10 and under. They like to sit together. The platters and bowls are too heavy/precarious for them to hold, serve themselves, and pass to another little one. To keep the food off the floor we serve buffet style with rolls and condiments on the table. Usually the adults get the kiddos’ plates filled and kids seated, and then the adults serve themselves.
