Weekly Special White Goose Down Comforter

Weekly Special Royal Luxe white goose down comforter.

(H218908 is the full/queen size)

My first goose down (and other feather) comforter was junk!

It 'leaked' tiny feathers that would poke right through the cotton cover. The tiny feathers were 'lighter than air' and floated everywhere.

I ended up throwing it in the trash.

My second white goose down comforter is about 20 years old now, and still hasn't sprung a leak. No feathers poke through even though I launder it spring and fall. (line dry) I not only wash it, I bleach it.

In reading the info for the Weekly Special I noticed it's Dry Clean Only. So of course I had to check the tag on my own comforter.

I was quite surprised to see it also said Dry Clean Only.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's disregarded the Dry Clean instructions and just laundered white goose down comforters?

It doesn't seem to have done it any harm.

😏 I almost wish the stitching was falling apart on mine, because I'd like a good excuse to order the Weekly Special.

Maybe I should check mine too LOL!  I launder mine all the time and have for 20 years.  This one is a great price IF it's a nice one.  Some don't have enough fill in them to even be considered comforters.

I've been dry cleaning mine for years!

I am afraid to put a king size down comforter in my washer and dryer.

I hate to be a cynic, but I've had so many bad experiences with QVC's "bargains" that I wouldn't trust that this comforter is not either defective or very poor quality.  I had an experience with a down filled throw about a year ago.  It's so thin, I can practically see through it.  Even my dogs aren't interested in lounging on it.  The thread count of the cover determines whether tiny feathers will work their way through it.

With a very low thread count of 233, the cover on the special comforter will have feathers leaking all over the bedroom.  Skip this deal.  You'll get what you pay for.

Re: Weekly Special White Goose Down Comforter

We have had our down comforter for 30 years now and I have never done anything other than launder it in the washer and dry it in the dryer. (It’s still in great condition, which is good news since we are not fans of the chemicals used in dry cleaning.)

I know this in my gut, but I needed to hear someone else say it. Thanks!

The first one I bought was from HSN, and this may possibly be just as bad.

I'd wake up with these minute bits of feathers up my nose, in my hair, stuck in my eyelashes, and I was forever vacuuming!

I remember standing at the stove tending something, and a tiny bit of feather floated past at eye level.

I thought, "in my food, too?"

That was it!

@LilLadyNJ

I have king size down comforters in all my bedrooms.  I have washed and dried them at home for years.

I put them in the dryer ( one ) for about 10 minutes and then put them over PVC pipes DH has installed in the basement.  They finish air drying.  I will go down and shake them to adjust the feathers and rehang in the opposite direction a few times.

They look great; smell fresh; and, are ready for storage again.

Don't use a washer with an agitator.

I take mine to the laundromat to use a big front loader. (don't have one at home)

Little Tide, little pre-diluted bleach, but no softners.

I take it home and put it in a cool dryer for 10 minutes or so, just to break up the clumps of wet feathers a bit.

Then I hang it outside on the line to dry. Picking a sunny day with a steady light breeze is key for me.

Periodically I rotate it to let in flap in the breeze in different directions, and the feathers redistribute themselves, and absorb the fresh air smell.

I would recommend buying your comforter from The Company Store.  I've had mine for about 20 years, and it's still perfect.  It's nice and warm, too.  They have different levels of warmth to choose from.  I wash mine in the washing machine.
