And for equal species time......my sis bought me this wool hooked pillow---the image doesn't do it justice. The cat looks just like my Tuxedo cats.

I also brought one of their braided rugs for my kitchen......great quality....and has held up well, and I bought some art work too. Yankee Sturbridge has so many nice things.....

BUT, they are really $$$$$$$$!
I would wait for a sale or seasonal clearance. You can find some similar items at Home Goods for a lot less.
I love looking at the companies that sell primitive items. There is one in PA called Country Door that also has cute stuff.
@flickerbulbOur house is primitive antiques.

I have smatterings of primitive items in my home. I collect them especially when I travel.
One cool thing I have is a ladder made out of wood used to roll tobacco leaves. I found that in a cool antique store in the Carolinas.
Would love to see some pics of your decor!

@flickerbulbThank you! I taught Interior Design, and my students kept after me to take pics for --no less---than Christmas! Although I've replaced the couch, (I never had a pet on the furniture before, but it gave me great comfort) I will around the holidays and put it under home!
PS New couch is RED!!!!!!!

Although I already have a career, I would love to take Interior Design classes just for my own knowledge.
I actually looked at the local college, but they only offer classes when I am usually at work.
I am in the process of selecting new fabric to recover my sofa.
Red sounds bold and beautiful! Enjoy!

If you would like to do a home study, I'd suggest you get this book. It's excellent and still in use. It starts at $.87 on Amazon for used editions.
After you finish the decor part, it would be good to visit a furniture store that orders from different companies. That way you'll get to see more variety as well as see the work of designers.
Most people decorate their houses on either the red or yellow side of the color wheel. Ideally, you could pretty much move a few items from one room to another and it would work. The house should "flow". Most people decorate around a theme as well, although they see it as a "like". They may like the clean lines of modern, or the beautiful patina of antiques, or the look of modern.
Be sure when you order furniture you order all of your pillows. Dye lots are important. Upholstery and window treatments may not match on a re order. I got two extra to make sure one didn't get ruined, since the back of my couch is pillows.
Think about what that fabric will have to do. Will it get a lot of use? If so, don't get printed cotton weaves which are beautiful for chairs that get little useage. I love Waverly. What else will it have to match in the room?
I always wanted to make sure my great room looked good with Christmas! If you remember "Color Me Beautiful", which does this for your wardrobe, I'm a winter. I don't even care for the other side of the wheel. I have no oranges or yellow greens.
You might want to pick up some magazines in your taste to look at. Tear pages out and leep a folder of what you love. You can also google image different styles and print. Soon, you'll see a pattern.
I've been out of teaching for six years and miss it~! (Not the paperwork and mountains of notes I wrote on their work!)!
I know you'll have fun. Let me know if I can lend a hand!![]()
