@pdlinda wrote:@rms1954 I have a question about washing bathmats. I tried to wash mine twice. I have a full-sized 2 yr-old GE washing machine.
In each case, the mat caused the rinse&spin cycle not to work properly.
I had to shut off the machine and lift the mat that was SOPPING WET and seemed to weigh a ton! Then, I had to dry it on towels. That took days!
I later read that it was very ill advised to use a home washer for bath mats. Instead it was advised to go to a commercial washing machine place. I have none of those in my area.
As a result, I VACUUM my bathroom every week to get the dust out and leave it at that.
I'd love to know how you wash your bath mat.
I just use the heavy duty cycle. My mats are not very big

Have you ever tried a bath stone. They are amazing.

@gloriajean I repurchase bath mats as needed. I am older and do not "BOUNCE BACK" like I used to. I always keep a long padded one on my tub as well. My mother fell in the bathroom one time and broke several ribs.

@ninjawife wrote:For some odd reason when we moved into our home 9 years ago, my cat would regularly pee on our bathmats. Never anywhere else in the house, just the bathmats. So we now we have teak mats.
What a great idea @ninjawife Off to Amazon to take a look.

Two of our bathrooms still have throw rugs. Our master bath is small. There's a bath mat for stepping out of the tub/shower. The bottoms of my feet are dry when I step off. I'm not opposed to having a rug in there, just haven't made it a priority.

@pdlinda wrote:@Caffeina Thanks for the info.
My machine is similar to yours and the mat is the same size.
When you load the mat into the machine, do you roll it up and curve it around the center post? Also, do you put the shaggy side up or down when you insert it?
Thanks so much!
I fold it in half lengthwise, and wrap it around the agitator, but not tightly. Shaggy side out, fold on the bottom.

@Caffeina OK. I will do that.
One last question: I'll wash the mat alone. Should I use the water level as "small" or "medium?"
Again, thanks so much.

I have GE three year old basic machine. I have found it gets off balance if I do one bulky item. One time I washed a sherpa hoodie and had to remove it heavy with water...what a mess. I find something similar in size to wash with it...another rug, a couple of large towels, etc. I am debating whether to do full down coats n washer or not. Two coats needs much water to flow through and these new washers just don't provide much water.

Thanks for the responses! I forgot to mention that I put a bathtowel on the floor so when I get out of the tub, I'm not on the floor, works well for me. The floor is the same as all the floors in the house, it's really linoleum but looks like a darker wood or laminate. It's really nice, the kitchen, dining area and bathroom have all the same floor. In tub we have handle bars for safety and I use them all the time. We also have had our tub cut for just showers, so it's not a high step to get in or out of. We moved to this townhouse almost 2 years ago. I was just curious if anyone else got rid of bath room rugs.
They were a nuisance in there.

I have a couple of small bathroom rugs but I also use a bath mat towel from LL Bean to get out of the shower.
I agree, you have to be careful in the bathroom, even my non slip rugs "slipped" one time when I lost my footing on the tile. I took a fall and was lucky I only ended up with bruises!
As far as them being dirty, mine don't seem to get bad. I wash them every once in awhile but I shake them out or air them out more often.
