Can't walk down stairs......gotta live on a slab.   Now you know my "secret".

Nicely done and in perfect tune with the overall look of the space. Part of the home in which I grew up was circa 1860s, and the back stair was nearly identical to this one, except--this is the fun part--it was hidden inside a closet. A mystery! (Underground Railroad perhaps?) All original from the period. It was the stair closest to my room, which in 1860 was an unfinished garret space perfect for hiding anything, so I used it most of the time and considered it my private, hidden stair. My friends loved it. When you are, say, 8 years old and reading Nancy Drew mysteries, having a hidden staircase is just plain cool!

That's WONDERFUL idea for the back stairs, which tend to be less interesting than the main staircase!  What a neat idea!  I may have to try that.  We have a second staircase from the back hallway.

Lovely; sans the creepy portrait.

Creative for sure, but it looks like they are lacking a handrail. When we sold our old 2 story home in CNY, we had to put in handrails.

Too dark, narrow and steep. Big NO.
