Re: Are you getting the stink bug attack?

At our camp I have to keep the vacuum out in the shed because there is no room for it inside. On wed. before we left for the winter I wanted to vacuum one last time. DH brought in the vacuum for me and I could smell them in there. EEEWWWW.So I ran outside with it and when we opened the bag they were all in there. DH took out the bag and threw it in the campfire he had burning to get rid of a bunch of papers etc. and then he shook out the cloth bag and washed it. We feel we got them all.Hopefully. Otherwise they will freeze in there over the winter. We are home in Florida now and they don't seem to survive here.

Re: Are you getting the stink bug attack?

@dex, I was advised that they can live inside the vac canister and can crawl out again, so in essence it's an ineffective control.  I just read @151949's response about finding their vac bag full of them - eww.  I think I'll have my husband empty ours today.

@MadameQueen, centipedes have me running in horror.  I think I'd rather have stink bugs!  A picture fell off my kitchen wall once and there was the mother of all centipedes behind it.  I couldn't think of anything else to do, so I vacuumed her up.  Made hubby empty it immediately and seal up the trash bag.

@Sweetbay magnolia  See, that centipede was so big it knocked over the picture!  Seriously, I have never seen them so big.  I told my husband they are trying to tun me over.  As George's father said on Seinfed, "I have to move, I will not tolerate infestation"!  Woman LOL

Gross.  Just put on a favorite baseball cap and there was a stink bug inside the rim.  Just glad that I saw it.

This sounds disgusting!!  I live in Western Washington and do not even know what a stinkbug is and I hope it stays that way!  They only time I have ever seen a centipede is when visiting a friend in Hawaii.

In comparison to a couple years ago, this year we have very few.  I hope it stays that way.  (SW PA)

Re: Are you getting the stink bug attack?

I live in a log home in the woods so I would be one unhappy camper if bugs bothered me.LOL We have had more stink bugs this year than ever before, I don't kill them because I find they only stink if you disturb them.

Re: Are you getting the stink bug attack?

@bonnie f

Stink bugs reportedly came to this country from overseas (I think in Asia) and that's why we have them.  In fact, many of the pests we have today were imported inadvertently by traveling on plants, in food containers, etc.  Sounds like you just got another shipment .

I had a horrendous population of stink bugs around my house years before they started being talked about in the news media, and I didn't know what they were called.  Last year, we hardly had any.  Right now, I'm finding a few dead ones in the house and a few live ones looking for ways to get into the house for the winter.

When I see  live ones in the house, I grab a tissue or wad of toilet paper, scoop them up and flush them.  They are indeed disgusting, and I'm sorry you had to open a box full of them.
