Re: Another Bird in the House!

@x Hedge

We had a similar problem with birds wanting to build a nest behind the light fixture by our front door.

Solution: we crumpled up a plastic bag and tucked it between the wall and the light.  No more avian visitors.

Re: Another Bird in the House!

@2blonde No, it wasn't a turkey.  It was some little nondescript bird.  I couldn't get a good enough look at it to be able to look up what kind.

@NickNack No screens on my windows, sadly.  I did buy a screen that hangs from a tension rod for the french door off the kitchen so I could open those doors instead of the windows.

@x Hedge Good idea about the light.  I'll remember that.

@goldensrbest Oh, don't tell me that.  I'm not particularly superstitious, but I don't want any negative thoughts out in the universe just in case.

@Perkup Maybe that's what I have...a house wren.  I'll have to look that up to see what one looks like.  I had to take my front door wreath down this spring because the young doves were trying to nest in it.  The birds that flew into my windows were all hummingbirds, but this little guy was something else.

@Marsha2003,We have that all the time!  They love my wreaths!

Just open the front door, turn on the outside light, turn OFF the inside lights.

They'll go for the "sun".  The outside lights.

Ee gad no screens in windows? I couldn't do that! I can't cohabitate with bugs in the place I live.

We get those little white cuban frogs that sit on top of the front door, and when we open that door they fall and land in the house.Then the chase ensues to capture them and put them back outside.We seldom use that door.

And don't even mention geckos.In the lanai, just everywhere outside, and occasionally they get inside. Thank goodness they can't bite you but you must be quick to catch them.

Re: Another Bird in the House!

About three months ago, my brother and I were talking. I was standing by the kitchen door and he was in the garage. Both doors were open. My son came downstairs into the kitchen and said there is a bird behind you. I turned aroung and of course, there was a black bird. No idea how it got in because we would have seen it.

My son and my brother tried to get it out. Opened the other doors but the bird refused to leave. It flew from the kitchen to the dining room and through the living room, then back to the kitchen. Landed on the table, then under the table, while passing the open doors. Still wouldn't leave.

Next, flew on the counter and walked around, then unto the stove. Then unto the floor again, walking around me. Finally it flew out the back kitchen door.

We buried my husband the day before this happened and was told that he came to make sure we were ok and let us know that he is ok. I really believe that, especially when it landed on the stove . My husband loved to eat lol.

@Sage04

Seems like he really wanted to get everyone's attention !

I had a favorite aunt who passed and it seems she wanted to console me on my late November birthday:  as I looked out the French doors, I saw one large bloom on the lower part of the rhododendron bush.

Flowers don't bloom here this time of year !  I had to smile because I remembered how she loved rhodies !

@ID2 Luckily, we have very few bugs where I live.  The worst I fight are house centipedes and they get in whether the windows are open or closed.  I rarely see a fly or mosquito and bees seem to stay outside by the flowers.
