My washer's timer went out for the third time, so I think it is time for new one (never liked the GE I have anyway).   I want a top loader, no agitator washer.  Would like one without water saver, but they don't exist now and this one does have deep water wash selection..  Anyway washer/dryers  are on sale now for 4th of July sale.  Price is good I think $469, plus tax, free delivery and set up and take away old washer.  I am also planning to purchase the 5-year warranty package for $99.

Any pros and cons on Maytag top loader, no agitator would be appreciated before I take the plunge.  Thanks and looking forward to responses.

I recently got a new washer & in doing my research, I purchased a Speed Queen.. Maytag also got good reviews, but IMHO Speed Queen was just a cut above.. SQ is a little bit more expensive, but in the long run, it's worth it.. I had a kenmore for over twenty yrs & kenmore is not the same quality as yesteryear ..

LOVE my Speed Queen.

Get a Speed Queen while you can.  They are not HE for now, but will be next year.  You will regret the impailer model because you have to load it around the impailer in a circle if you want it balanced.  Speed Queen is great.  That will be my next, but they are not cheap.  I believe they are also made in America.

I know the OP doesn't want agitator but you really should consider it.  I have a new Speed Queen top load agitator.  It is a well built machine that gets the job done like the good machines did a couple of decades ago.

I also use less than a teaspoon of HE liquid detergent for each wash. I stopped using those filter sheets for the dryer. I also add a little bit of white vinegar to the wash. The washer needs to be cleaned out once/month. I prefer the top loader.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my request.  One mentioned the Maytag Bravo only lasting 4 years.  That is one I had looked at the other day.  I thought I wanted no agitator, now I'm now sure.  Don't want the hassel of unbalanced loads and tangled clothes mentioned.  The main reason why I didn't want the agitator is the marks it leaves in my clothes.  Tried to look at Consumer Reports at Google and had to subscribe to read.  Going to the library tomorrow and while I'm there, I'll look at Consumer Reports.

Again, thank you all.  I will read over the posts again and buy a washer this week while they are on sale.

Re: Advice on a new washer

After a fair amount of reseach I settled on a top loader from Whirlpool from Lowes for $429.  I think I'm pleased with my purchase but realize appliances aren't built they way they used to be in the past.
