I wish I could get motivated to get my shopping done. I hate putting it off until December. Glad you are ahead of the game!

I'm done Christmas shopping & everything is in the gift bags I purchased last yr on clearance...because of budget concerns I always get done early. Oct - Nov I have fall cleanup & preparing for winter by stocking up on needed goods like softner salt & food for the pantry-freezer just in case I'm snowed in & in Dec a hefty property tax bill is due. I'll get teased as usual by friends but when you loose your pension you plan ahead or you get behind quickly.

@gidgetgh I think it is great that you have already started.....what a sense of satisfaction this must give you!
I have started early and started late in the last ten years and the times that I started early have proven to be the holidays that I have enjoyed the most. I don't want to spend the month of December going in and out of the stores....trying to find gifts that have already been picked over and feeling the stress. It makes me crabby and totally removes the joy of Christmas for me.
I will start my Christmas decorating in mid November and work my way through my home. The gifts are already being purchased. I hope to do a lot of entertaining this year and having the decorating and gift buying out of the way will be such a blessing.

I'm almost finished, just two gift cards to get. I'm waiting for black friday for those.

@gidgetgh Wow! Good for you! I've made a few purchases, and I'm starting to decide what to send the kid's in-laws. But that's about it. I did decide on Christmas cards - that usually takes half a year! Hahaha! But, here's my question. Does anyone have young grandchildren who change their minds every week up until the last week before Christmas? If I buy something now, it will be so last year by the time Christmas rolls around.

My DH will get the majority of the gifts I buy so I'll wait until after Thanksgiving to do most of my shopping. However, our basement rec room was due for a good cleaning so I thought why not get it decorated for Christmas. It looks so festive!

No grandchildren for me, but all of my friends experience exactly what you described. During our decision making conversations, this drama was mentioned, and both friends were still searching for what their teen grands had asked for a week before Christmas last year.

@RedTop Well, it helps to hear that others have the same problem. I don't have as much a problem with the older grandkids. They like the Playstore gift cards, and just cold hard cash. I usually give a small personal gift with the card. Every once in a while, someone will need new skates or something. My problem is with the 2-8 year olds who certainly don't want new boots or gloves and hats.

@PA Mom-mom - For my nephews and nieces in that young age range, I purchase "classic" gifts like Legos and other building sets, cars and trucks, balls, dolls, handheld electronic games, puzzles, science kits for the slightly older kids, books, and coloring books with all the accessories. I figure it is very likely that other relatives will get them the things specified on their lists or be brave enough to fight the crowds around the holidays, and after the latest fad fades, the kids go back to these tried-and-true options anyway. Good luck!

DH and I have very little shopping to do....His daughters and husband get money.
Out middle granddaughter will receive a couple of gifts and what is left, will be cash....oldest one is married so she is a bit easier and we also gift her and her husband with cash. Youngest granddaughter is only 9 but gets enough for several kids from her parents sigh....we send money, she needs NOTHING!
We have two great grands 1 and 5......they also get a LOT of stuff, but not sure what we are gifting them this year. I did make a 'treasure' box for the baby...I will put a few signigicant things in the box and it can also hold a lock of hair and tooth, when the time comes.
Kids. have so much stuff today, it makes gift giving difficult and really not a lot of fun....you should see their birthday parties....that's another subject.
