Re: Do You Decorate The Entire House For The Holidays?

Front porch, front door, living room, and dining room table.   The main bath will have holiday hand towels for the month of December.   My family of 4 adults wants only a gentle reminder of Christmas in the house.

Re: Do You Decorate The Entire House For The Holidays?

I used to decorate more rooms than I do now. I no longer use any decor in the upstairs (three bedrooms, two baths and a hallway). Used to have a little in the guest bath upstairs and the kiddos room when he was little, but have decided I'd rather focus on doing fewer areas and doing them nicer.

I need a break for they eye as well @ECBG, and don't like to have holiday in every single room anymore.

I have also noticed the holiday themed sheets, quilts, curtains etc. and it is just all too overwhelming for me. Reminds me of some of the sets used in the Hallmark movies, simply dripping with too much for the mind to process.

I have moved to having some themes or color schemes in just a few rooms. The family room is vintage/primitive, the dining room is done in elegant cardinals which is echoed in the kitchen with my Temp-tations cardinal serveware. The living room was going gold and silver and red, but I've interjected an earthy brown vignette for on the coffee table (possibly) this year, so I'm not sure how that will all pan out.

I still do two trees, but they are not big ones. One in the living room and one in the family room, each are only 5 foot at this time.

And this is the first year I've done much outside. BL lit swags on the windows, wreaths on the doors, and stake trees flanking the garage (and one on the porch). As always, window candles in all windows throughout the house.

You forgot outside and yes I do it all. It's something I enjoy. I already have my white bethlaham tree up in the entry way. My luminara lanterns out on the back deck. I just do a little every day.

Re: Do You Decorate The Entire House For The Holidays?

I decorate inside our living room, kitchen, bathroom, hallway closets and outside we decorate on the house, front door and on our lawn area and trees. I am done decorating inside until we chop down the tree from the tree farm the second week of December and DH and I decorate that together. He strings the lights and does the top of the tree for me and I do the rest. I love decorating for Christmas.

I don't decorate evvery room for Christmas, that would be like od'ing on sugar...too much of a good thing.  I decorate (tastefully) my living room, dining area and kitchen.  I usually have a small tree in our bedroom and a couple of Christmas touches in the family room; candles in the window and a ceramic tree on a side table.

When my husband was alive and my girls were living at home we decorated every room like crazy!  But as they moved away and he died last year I didn't even put up a Christmas tree.  I love the days leading up to Christmas, Christmas Day, not so much.  So much hype for one day which seems like the shortest day of the year!

Last year my daughter who lives about 30 minutes away spent Christmas on a cruise with her husband's entire family.  They shipped the presents, etc there.

Then that same daughter and my youngest daughter met all of us at my daughter's who lives in Orlando Florida, so we spent New Year's together.  It was fun.

We skype, text every day, send pictures and so on so when we are together it's as if we live next door to each other.  We are very close.

@ECBG you know that because you and I are facebook friends (love, love you).

This year my daughters are having a big party for me for family and friends.  I turn 70 (Whoopee).  Wish you were here Cathy!  We'd dance on the table!

I don't like to drive at night so my daughter is sending a limo for me and my 'old' friends to take us and bring us back from the party.

Getting back to Christmas.  I don't know what my daughter is going to do for Christmas this year, haven't talked about it yet.  She has 4 children (ages 4 - 14) whom I'm close to.  I'll probably give the Florida group their presents on my birthday as it is my granddaughter (the Florida one) her birthday the day after mine (she was my birthday present).  The youngest daughter is spending Christmas in Germany and then going to Switzerland.  She has friends there so she's going with another friend (all from high school) to visit.

@Annabellethecat66You KNOW I will be there with you in spirit my sweet friend!  I know with that birthday, no one will get a word in edgewise!  I'll have a glass of white zin for you!

What is the date of your birthday?

@MominohioTotally agree!  Some of that is too much.  I'm too visual and it's like a sensory explosion!

Re: Do You Decorate The Entire House For The Holidays?

When my GS was born I started doing more, like I did when our boys were little.  It's not Hallmark-movie-set but something in every room.

I think I am going to tone it down a bit.  I have way too many trees.
