@bonnielu

I guess it's nice she wanted to pass them to you. Did she explain why she didn't want them anymore? If you don't want them, you're not obligated to accept or keep them.

I don't think you need a large or expensive or designer bag for confidence. It's more about what we like and need as individuals. I carry smaller bags now that I am retired. I prefer faux leather or real leather which IMO works with any outfit.

@bonnielu   You may not value appearance and that's the only value any fashion item that most of us ever buy can offer.   However, if one of the bags your sister gives you appeals, I know for me that would be easier to use that than jumbling my things into a shopping bag.

For any bag you do not expect to use, donate your gifts to a local shop you feel can benefit. (You're not obligated to tell anyone.  They're yours and it's just fine if you and your sister value different things. Thrift is where my older leather bags have gone, but I should tell that I have also donated a number of Sac bags just because the ones I had made finding what I wanted irritating!   I prefer the structure and organization of a bag.

I like having a nice leather bag but my limit is between $300-400. I only use small crossbodies because I don't carry much. Credit card case, phone, keys, chapstick and aspirin.

Years ago I was at Nordstroms.  The sales person told me you can tell the level of confidence a women has by the size of her purse.

Well I guess I don't have much confidence as I only carry a small crossbody and not a handbag that could pass for a piece of luggage.

um, if I were a cashier I would not care to handle a sweaty credit card that has been housed in your bra. Ew.

@bonnielu.  Are you saying when you leave home, you go forth with your personal possessions in something like a Walmart bag?  If so, I'm speechless.

@Kachina624 I agree.  And as I keep saying, we tell the world who we are and who we think we are by how we dress.  If you dress like a bum, people assume you are a bum.

Like it or not, when we get dressed we send a message to others about who we are or want to be.

A Walmart bag sure would send a message!  One we'd for sure understand.

Even if I am dressed very casually (as in work out clothes) I like a nice handbag and clean shoes in good condition. I toss my athletic shoes and handbags when they are stained or worn in any way.

I would appreciate the handbags and be thrilled I was given them. If they were not my style I would donate them or return the ones that didn't suit me to my sister who gifted them to me.
