The GILI line of bags has turned me towards the "inspiration" bag, Gucci. The GILI Verona bag is an interpretation of the GUCCI Jackie bag:

The current sale of the GILI bag, from $266 to $132 sparked my attention. Then read so many of the bad reviews, many complaining about the GILI leather.

So (in the interests of scientific investigation), today I took a trip to the nearby San Francisco Premium Outlet Mall, which now has GUCCI! My first in-person experience with a Gucci bag. Oh, my.

That's what soft leather is like, simple design, perfect finishes.

Any Gucci bag fans out there? I want to join you.

Love to hear/see the Gucci bag you have.

About 25 years ago my mother and I got hooked on the Gucci outlet store near us. I had one of every color, size, and shape! They ran from $49 to $99! What I loved best about the bags was the leather lining! Then, I branched out and asked dh for one from Macy's. It was the yummiest ever!  Unfortunately, they did not wear very well (or, I was spoiled getting them so easily! But the edge binding wore badly and they looked old after just carrying them a few times!) so I sold them a my yard sales. I would love to have those back now, along with a few Brahmin bags I sold as well! I will definitely be looking at those sale Gili bags! Thanks!

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

I much prefer the Gucci version over the attempted copy of it by GILI

I like this one by Gucci, don't have it yet though Smiley Very Happy .

@alliswell: Wow, that's a little ruby delight. Good luck resisting.

I'm now sorting through my used-once Coach/Dooney/Brahmin to take to the local luxury consignment store—in order to be able to buy a Gucci!

It's a glorious task.

Fewer handbags owned, higher quality, deeper appreciation of the art, architecture, and texture of a high end bag . . .

Re: Gucci Handbag Fans?

[ Edited ]

When I worked in the SF Financial district, Gucci was the most desired handbag:  late 1990's and still going strong

They have a premium outlet store in Vacaville...hmmmmm.  I signed up for the newsletter

Especially the tri colored: that is iconic

I have one but wouldn't mind more!  I'm more of a Gucci shoe fan, though.

@hicindy2:

Great observation about the bag's popularity in SF, thanks.

Loved hearing about the tri-color.

Currently aiming to get this one, from the Gucci outlet in Livermore (San Francisco Premium Outlets), soft suede, exquisite;

I completely agree!  I would gladly part with my carefully curated (albeit small) handbag wardrobe in favor of one aspirational handbag.

No more $200- $300 purchases for me.  I have a keen sense of attention to detail and when I compare a Gili copy to the real thing, well, what can I say, there really is no comparison.

I have been searching for my "it" bag for quite some time, unable to make a decision.  Thank you for this thread and please let us know what you choose!

Kindred handbag spirits!

I think, in part, that those of us who did NOT grow up with a lot of money were taught to believe it was wasteful to think of spending $$$ on a handbag. Another factor is those who argue that wearing a high-end bag is attempting to flaunt status.

Look at these Gucci Jackie bags! Unless you are a Gucci bag fan, you'd NEVER know it was Gucci. The only sign is tiny tiny print on the metal fastener! Simple beauty.

@wildcat fan:

I saw these flats at the premium outlet store yesterday and adored them:

Now, of course, they will haunt me. Should've checked the price as the handbag prices were 50% off!

Fell in love with these whimsical flats on the Gucci site:
