Re: Coach buys Kate Spade 2.4 Billion

Kate spade sells more than The things you mentioned that Coach sells.  Kate spade also sells Homeware:  dishes, kitchen tools, desk accessories, giftware, major furniture, rugs, lamps, bedding & bath.  This is what makes a true Lifestyle brand.  Coach is not a lifestyle brand.  In addition the Kate Spade handbags you used as a comparison, well you selected the most conservative pieces from their line. The majority of what they offer are completely different.

Re: Coach buys Kate Spade 2.4 Billion

Oh for heaven's sake, is this really about cheerleading for a brand... The OP brought to our attention that Coach bought out Spade and some of us have speculated as to what that might mean for the brands. Really, it's not necessary to go to respective corners like boxers in a ring... Some folks like Spade, some folks like Coach, some folks like both and some folks like neither... And then, there are some folks who reallize the two are nothing more than brands of consumer goods and really can't get too worked up about any of it...

Oh yes @Danielle46.  I'm simply pointing out for those who may forget that Coach sells more than handbags.

Coach is fast becoming a niche handbag for those who prefer lots of embellishments and more.  Kate Spade does not compare in this regard.  KS sticks to Saffiano leather mostly (which I hate), but much of Coach's new stuff is very different from KS.  Of course, they have some tried and true style like some already posted; but that's not what I was referring to.  The new artsy stuff is what separates these brands.

@itiswhatitis Oh, I certainly agree and have long been aware that Coach offers more than just bags and leather goods, so you'll get no arguments from me on that point. As for your perception of the differences between the two brands, I think we'll have to agree to disagree. To be sure, Coach most recently has been doing lots of appliques and bling... but have you taken a look at KS's offerings? A number of bags currently available are hardly classic or traditional.... Here are just a few...

Re: Coach buys Kate Spade 2.4 Billion

I only have visited the Coach outlet stores and the Kate Spade outlet stores in Las Vegas and I was not impressed with the Kate Spade outlet at all. I thought that the merchandise in the outlet store looked gaudy and cheap looking. It's hard to say how this merger or aquisition will benefit the consumers though. As I don't own handbags by either brand (I do have a pair of Coach sunglasses) I don't really care about this deal very much. Retailers are in trouble and Kate Spade's financials is what put it on the selling block.

If you haven't seen it, there was a huge and I mean huge sale of Kate Spade at Hautelook today. All Kate Spade.

Very nice @stevieb.  Thanks for adding pics.  The top bag is faux crosshatch (according to Nordstrom).

Bright hummingbirds flit among watercolory flowers on a crosshatch-textured satchel that's roomy enough for work or weekend essentials.

  • Top zip closure
  • Top carry handles; optional, adjustable shoulder strap
  • Optional leather bag charm
  • 14-karat gold-plated hardware
  • Interior wall pocket
  • Flat base with protective metal feet
  • Signature quick & curious jacquard lining
  • Polyurethane
  • Dust bag included
  • Imported
  • Handbags
  • Item #5363981

That one is a classic silouhette.  Everybody has done at least one doctor bag!  Woman LOL

Nice pieces overall that I have never seen offered in department stores.  As long as they are leather, they could be in the running as on option for me.  I don't like their faux crosshatch though.

Thx.
