Thanks for your concern.  We live in northern Oregon and have honest-to-goodness 4 real seasons.  Peonies do very well here.  Three years ago I ordered lovely, full pink peonies from Brecks and those blankety-blanks sent me truly the ugliest single petal peonies I have ever seen.  Yanked them out and threw them in the garbage.  Wrote a scathing letter to Brecks, as it was clear they sent me the el-cheapo ones.  In return, I received a gift certificate for the amount spent on the peonies ordered, which I'll soon spend ordering the real thing.  Hopefully, they'll send the correct peonies this time.  They're so beautiful and are slated to bloom under an 8' wide window.  Can't wait to see the result.

Hold off on removing the lilies. There are fewer blooms in the 1st year of planting. Give them more time.
