Here I am sitting in my screen porch out back and guess who comes for dinner?  OMG the deer was skulking around the trees in the field next to me just watching.  It didn't see me so it tip toes to the side of my house and I know exactly what it was going for...no way homey...I started banging on a table and he bolted... cayenne pepper and plenty of it tomorrow after it rains 🤬

I went for the big guns and got the Liquid Fence to battle our neighborhood herd.

I use Deer Scram Professional and it works great not only for the deer but other animals.  It is pricey however, so are all the hostas I have planted.  I order on line in a five gallon pail.

Yes, Liquid Fence really works.  Deer have gotten worse here over the last ten years and I wouldn't be without it.  I have used homemade repellents in the past; they work too but have to be reapplied after rain.
