Spring walkabout

[ Edited ]

We still have snow in the yard but diminishing daily.  Snow/ice in the forecast for today.  It doesn't last long though.  The ice is gone from the lake (March 20).

We had a hard winter for the gardens.  A lot of freeze thaw action going on.  We had a brutal deep freeze too.  Some of the local gardening experts did bud checks on rhododendrons after the deep freeze and the results were discouraging.  They dissected the buds and most were dead.

I lost all my Heather.  They were pretty old and have done good service.  Time for a new planting.  The snow drops are up now.  No sign of the crocus yet, they are still under snow.  Here are a few photos...LM

I bought a new sit on kayak.  I think I have Spring fever...

Love your Kayak!  Happy paddling!  It looks like our recent hard frost took our hydrangeas down.  I had covered my clematis but not them.  Hopefully the weather will mellow out.  I am in the coastal SE - it tends to go from cool to blazing hot and humid.  We never know what to expect - especially with Spring!  Happy gardening!

@FastDogWalker2  Oh no on the hydrangeas.  I had a big planting of shrubs last year.  I hope some survived.  I am hosting a garden tour in early June so some colour would be nice.  LM

@Lilysmom1    Hope there's not too much damage, especially of your favorites.

DID the lake ever freeze over?

@Kachina624  The lake did freeze over but not enough for safe use.  The ice went out March 20/21 in high winds.  Same time as last year.  LM
