@JustJazzmom, DH thought it was deer.  I was on the fence until I saw rabbit droppings on my big bank.  All ok two days later.  I think that is more because the dog is home again but I have the plants fenced in now as well. LM

Re: Some spring blooms...

[ Edited ]

Such beautiful pictures.

The last few days have been warm and today my lilacs and dogwood began blooming.  There are a few secluded blooms on 1 azalea. The peonies seem to have grown 6" in 2 days. Most of my daffodils are done but the tulips are blooming like crazy.

I'm in Westchester County, NY.

@muttmom, I can't wait to see some blooms, especially the lilacs!  I also have two gorgeous azaleas (Orange in color, called Northern Lights I think).  They are so pretty when they bloom.  Share some pictures if you can. Love to see everyon's gardens.  LM

I cut another large bouquet of lilacs for the living room this morning.

This is a very old bush that was here when I bought the house and the blooms are huge - in fact they pull the branches down.

Just pulled the apricot tulips out of my patio pots and planted dark red geraniums.  Picked up some more white begonias at Costco yesterday.  Need to get them planted.

Own root roses (3 of them) arrived from TX today and I got them planted and labeled into my rose garden. I still have to get more cedar mulch to replenish the bare areas there and I applied the Preen to prevent any weed seeds from germinating until I get around to getting the cedar mulch.

All of the roses were own root and about 6" to a foot tall in containers. All are Kordes roses and are from their Sunbelt and Parfuma collections.

I was assessing the rest of the roses there-- I now have 18 there and my 'Abbaye de Cluny' has a lot of winter damage. I am going to dig that out and put in Kordes 'Earth Angel' in its place in May when Chamblee ships again.

New roses I planted today will look like this some day:

'Savannah'

SAVANNAH_KORvioros (75)

'Plum Perfect'

Plum Perfect KORvodacom with buds

'Madame Anisette'

Madame Anisette KORberonem_01

The one I ordered today: 'Earth Angel'

@JustJazzmom  At what company in Texas did you buy the roses?

@mousiegirl

Chamblee Nursery-- they carry own root or ungrafted roses. They take a little longer to establish but I've found within 2 years they are the height of grafted ones.

@JustJazzmom

Love the color of the Savannah  My grandmother had a cutting garden of roses (about 50) but that was in Pasadena, CA.  Roses are just too much trouble in PNW with black spot.

@DiAnne

The roses I buy are highly disease resistant so I won't see black spot until late August by me.

Look for Kordes or what some companies might say 'German bred' roses in your nurseries. Look at the Newflora website for Kordes roses and then search online or local nurseries for them.
