If you want to ripen green tomatoes you can put into a sealed paper bag with an apple. As the apple ripens, it releases ethylene gas which will ripen your tomatoes.
I took off 2 beefsteak tomatoes that were green & a week in the house, one is ripening. The other is still green. They are sitting on my kitchen counter.
Despite my son telling me green tomatoes never ripen if removed from the plant, they do eventually ripen. I didn't want the squirrels sampling the merchandise!

The squirrels could poop out the seeds and you'd have tomatoes coming up when and where you least expect them. That's what happened to me, more than once. It was great! I didn't have to fool around with planting seeds or transplants or anything. Just let 'em grow and harvest them when thet were ready.

@hick wrote:NO gardener me! FIrst time ever with cherry tomato plants. They are in the ground, have grown nicely and produced quite a lot of cherry tomatoes.
Now however, the tomatoes are still green and don't seem to be ripening.
What to do??? What to do?????
In THIS house, green cherry tomatoes will be dunked in a beaten egg, then cracker or bread crumbs, then fried. GOURMET!
