I just wanted to share some interesting pictures of my garlic plants, as the paper thin sheath is just popping off the tops.  Please keep in mind, I allow these few plants to grow kinda tall and wild, so they're pretty large.  I usually try to grow enough to do all my canning and put some up for winter.

That is so interesting; thanks.  This city person had no idea what the plant looked like!

Wow, great pictures, thanks!  Another city person here, the closest I've ever gotten to see where garlic comes from is the supermarket.

Thank you so very much.😃❤️

I thought these plants looked really interesting too.  I was lucky to get them just before they shed this super thin skin.

Wow @cheriere

That looks like an Alien!!

Is garlic hard to grow?  We had extra room in our beds this year and couldn't think of what we wanted to plant!

Love your pictures.  As a hobby my dad was an organic gardener and grew elephant garlic.  Loved having it so accessible.  And the thyme, rosemary, parsley, scallions, tomatoes, 5 different apple varieties on one tree as he grafted.  lol.  I could go on forever, so nice to have fresh produce out your back door, I'm sure you love it Smiley Happy

lol, it sure does look alien. 😂. It's really easy to grow.  Please keep in mind that these are merely the tops and the large bulbs grow underground.😃. A lot of people do eat these seed tops known as scapes.  It's said, they're delicious.

The actual garlic cloves do grow underground.  However, the top are known as the scapes.  They can be used as seed or to eat as well.

Heres what I got from google:  You'll notice in early to mid-June that your garlic is sending up a stalk from the center of the plant. The stalk is thicker than the leaves and is called the garlic scape. The scape, if left on the plant, will form a flower and then seed (you can eat those tiny seeds! using a garlic press is the best way to do that!).
