They showed a picture of a Frost Flower during the weather report on GMA.  I have never seen or heard of these.  They are so cool!  What a neat gift from Mother Nature!

Here is a description and a couple of pics:

A Frost Flower is formed when thin layers of ice are extruded from long-stemmed plants in autumn or early winter.  The thin layers of ice are often formed into exquisite patterns that curl into petals that resemble flowers.

@catter70  Yes, it does!  Some of the ribbon-type forms look like salt water taffy when it's being pulled by those machines.

Wow that's really cool. I haven't seen that phenomena before so thank you for sharing the photos and the explanation.

A gift from mother nature indeed.

A big chunk of ice fell of the roof this morning as I was sitting here working (the temps have finally warmed up a bit and the sun is out). I jumped out of the chair because it fell right past the window.

@GinaV24 .

So glad the sun came out and maybe the temperatures will rise.

Must have been quite a sight to see the ice fall right past your window.
