I am enjoying watching a female cardinal on my patio every morning. She is sitting on her nest waiting for her eggs to hatch. Her nest is in the perfect spot, safety tucked over my fish pond that has an abor with a thick vine growing all around the pond. The male cardinal keeps an eye on her at all times when he is not hanging around the feeder. This is the second set of Red birds that has hatched this year already. The first ones were near my garage and i would talk to the babies every morning until they flew off. We have quite a few sets of red birds.  We always keep our feeders and bird baths full of seed and water. Love the birds. My hummers are also back. Came around the end of March.

@JustJazzmom, in our dreary end days of winter, I bought some concrete birds and painted them ... a blue Jay, a cardinal, a gold finch and a junko.  I wasn't too happy with how the junko turned out so I may change his colors one rainy day.  You will see them when I have garden picks to post.  LM

Add some crushed egg shells near the nest so the mother bird can replenish some of her calcium due to her egg laying.

That's a great idea, I can do that. She never seems to mind me being around close to her and her nest, I am always doing things around my fish pond. I am not so sure if she cares for my Jack Russell on the patio ( Lucy) stays close to my heels.LOL
