Re: Cilantro help

A couple months ago I went to a Salsa class where I purchased the plants to make salsa.  The onions, tomatos, peppers are doing well as is the cilantro but I'm completely lost on what to do w/gigantic amount of it.

I harvested some of the cilantro this am, put it in a glass of water in the fridge & cleaned/cut it up to add it to my shrimp salad this evening.  It definitely had a distinct not pleasant taste - soap taste is that right?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I LOVE ❤️ Cilantro!

However, I've heard some people taste a soapy flavor.  This has never been the case for me though.

I don't think this would make any difference in the taste, but I always store it in a cup with some water, covered loosely with a plastic baggie.  Then, I leave it out on the counter.  This is supposed to create a greenhouse like effect.  It seems to last much longer this way.  I use this same method for all fresh herbs.😃❤️

@cheriere   Still having a difference of opinion w/cilantro.  Not liking it raw in salads & not liking it cooked in w/many different meat/vegies.  & like I said even the deer don't like it & they seem to be munching on any/everything in the neighborhood.  & I've put a notice on nextdoor for anyone interested in cilantro & no takers.  Guess, another of my adventures.

Lol, that's too funny that the deer don't even touch it!😂❤️

You may have just discovered something to help gardeners who can't keep the deer out of their produce.

If I were your neighbor, I would be asking you for the cilantro you don't use. @colleena LOL

If you prepare or eat any Caribbean dishes this herb is incorporated in the sofrito, it is a must.

I make my own sofrito and so I buy big bunches of it.

I cook many dishes and include this fragrant herb. Arroz con gandules couldn't exist without this.

I just got some basil from a friend who grows her own herbs and kale in her classroom under some contraption.

When I saw it, I immediately said, "Do you grow cilantro? "

She doesn't. 😞
