A couple months ago I went to a Salsa class where I purchased the plants to make salsa.  The onions, tomatos, peppers are doing well as is the cilantro but I'm completely lost on what to do w/gigantic amount of it.

I harvested some of the cilantro this am, put it in a glass of water in the fridge & cleaned/cut it up to add it to my shrimp salad this evening.  It definitely had a distinct not pleasant taste - soap taste is that right?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have read that some people taste a soap type of taste when they eat cilantro, I love it but some people don't I guess.  Its either you do or you don't.  Maybe leave it out if it doesn't appeal to you.  Also when it grows make sure to cut it before it flowers.

@colleena  I don't like cilantro either. Tastes like soap. Any recipe that calls for it, I use parsley instead.

I love cilantro, but I have friends who hate it, so I avoid it with dishes I prepare for these guests. Several friends also say it tastes like soap, but it doesn't to me. But, it does have a unique taste, like nothing else.

So, cilantro either affects folks taste buds differently, or maybe it's just an acquired taste, if introduced slowly over time. I'm sure I had it early as a child (lots of great Mexican food in my area) which might be why I grew to love it.

Seems so many people dislike it, I don't use it in my guacamole,

I guess you can make a paste with EVOO and freeze in ice cube tray!

Apparently, that soap 🧼 tastes is genetic for some people. 🌱

@colleena

As @Starpolisher says it's generic where some have a soap taste.

My son is somewhere in the middle, when I make pork posole he likes it cooked in the dish but he passes when fresh chopped is added on top when done.

Maybe you can tolerate it cooked within a dish, if not your friends and neighbors that like cilantro will enjoy it.

Count me in as pro cilantro.   I love it.

If you or hubby work could you send the extras to the work kitchen?  Those who garden do that where I work and items are usually taken by the end of the day.  Love when the gardeners share.

@colleena No one in my family enjoys cilantro. In a restaurant I will order a dish specifying no cilantro. I never use it in salsa and many restaurants in Texas and New Mexico omit it as well.

if it were my garden, I would do away with the cilantro and plant more onions or peppers.
