Better-half planted an Ebony Flame in the yard this week.

Ebony Flame Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia 'Ebony Flame') in Baltimore Timonium Hunt Valley Maryland ...

The dark foliage is interesting.

@just bee That's a black crepe myrtle. I have one but it has white blooms.  Red Hot Black Diamond (I believe that is the name).  I think yours is prettier than my white one but I needed a white in a flower bed with phlox, zinnias, yaupon holly and limelight hydrangeas.

Beautiful color! Our area is covered with crepe myrtie trees...at least 2-3 in every yard and along almost every median in our area of town. I saw a lavendar one yesterday and a red one that I had never seen before. We have three white ones in our yard; they started blooming profusely when the weather hit 100 last week; they love the heat! I haven't seen too. many leave them as bushes due to the space; we like our trees but they do take some maintence to keep them growing up instead of out!
