On 4/7/2015 goldenretriever said:I bought a set of 8 HGTV solar lights with a bronze finish from HSN, 4 or 5 years ago. They are THE BEST!! They change colors...from red, to blue, to green, etc. I live in the Seattle area, so LOTS of rain & not much sun. These lights work in all senerios- I leave them out all year. They're so pretty, really easy to clean, & are simply perfect.
I have these same lights and they are the best! I leave them out all year and they survive being covered in snow and still light up! I would not be surprised if HSN doesn't have a TS with them within the next few months.

We live on a quaint tree lined village lane that has winding small streets, from one end to the next, and almost every home has some type of solar pathway lighting. Ours is situated from the walk up to the scrubs, then stops. I thought 12 would be more interesting than 8.
Each one is controlled by a remote, so they actually give out a diamond shape pattern spreading about 2 feet on each side. Also we can have each morf at different times to light greens, yellow and light purple- back to soft whites. I have one on the entrance level away from the front door that stand planted among the ivy on the wrought iron.
Out of 15 homes I would say that 9 to 10 have solar lighting of some form. If you want a solar replacement, then be prepared to pay just under $100.00 for at least eight quality battery operated ones. We purchased ours online from a garden center.
We have trees and plenty of them, so it really has to be less shade and plenty of full sun for the best full lighting to shine through. I can't remember when we did not have solar around our home. The beautiful flowers are stunning at night when the warmth of those light are at its best. Yes, I would say solar lighting has improved. We have absolutely no community wired lighting throughout the entire street areas. All electric wires are hidden in the back of each home among the trees for an uncluttered look. I really like the landscape of that idea when the homes were built. I love solar anything.

we have several sets of the electric malibu lights around the yard but also have a lot of the color changing solar lights and have had them for several years now.

If I could, I would switch out all of our electric ones around the house. (they were here when we moved here.) The bulbs are constantly burning out and cannot keep them all going at once. They are spaced far apart on the driveway and around the whole house in the shrubs. Not so many, that it looks tacky. Solar lights have improved so much that I ordered the TSV of 10 from Energizer for the back yard beds and buildings. Most people like the whiter lights, but I prefer the softer amber tones. I know these will be a whiter look, but anxious to try them. Seems everything I have bought from the vendor, Jeff Myers, has been excellent quality.

We live in Florida and people here use them a lot. Of course we have the sunshine to keep them charged and bright. When the batteries die we generally just go replace the entire thing as it is almost as cheap as buying new batteries. IMO they give a home a nice ambiance at night. Make it seem welcoming and cozy. Our "front" door is on the side of the house so we have them along the driveway on the street side of the house, along the sidewalk to the door which is about a 30ft walk and then in the rear around the lanai. This way the walk is lit if anyone needs to walk there at night and we have some soft light if we want to sit out on the lanai, without having to turn on the ceiling fan light which is too bright and attracts mosquitos. They are a constant maintenance issue for my DH though. Always something with so many of them. We do have some neighbors who have the same type of lights 0nly they are hard wired but they are a bit too bright IMO. I prefer a softer light.
We also have our palm tree in the front yard lit from below with a solar spotlight. Very pretty.

I love solar lights. I have them all over. It's very dark where I live. I have a big piece of property with dark woods all around it. The solar lights enable me to put lights in odd places without all the wiring necessary. I don't seem to have a problem with them lasting or lighting up.

We live in the country and we have no street lights so it's extremely dark out here. We use ours to line the driveway from the street and over the culvert so cars don't go off the edge into the ditch and it's worked out extremely well. We've had ours for five years with no problems. I did order the TSV and will replace what we have with the new ones.... I'll then put the older ones in the back yard and wait for them to poop out. I think buying the 10 for around $60 is a better deal than replacing the batteries in the old ones.... when they decide to stop working.

I bought one set at Costco about 10 years ago, they were expensive then, but a very nice lantern style. I think they were ca. $60 for four. They stay out all year and only get part sun. Whenever I look at them from my bedroom window I am amazed that they are still going strong.

My qvc copper energizer solar lights arrived today. I only had time to put one out this evening but I think they are going to look very nice. Hope they last a while.

We still have a few that work. But I'm thinking of replacing them and adding a few more to the front and side yards.
