My one and only hydrangea, the "antique" variety, gave me some nice blooms this year. Not bad for a postage-stamp sized yard.

@GingerPeach This will bloom on old wood. Do you ever amend the soil for pink or blue blooms? Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine, but I only have panicullta (new wood) varieties.

This is not the type of hydrangea that blooms pink or blue depending on soil. It's the "antique" variety, that blooms as shown, @BirkiLady.
I don't want pink or blue; I bought it because of the variety of color.

@GingerPeachThen, it blooms on new wood? Sounds like a newer variety, rather than an "antique" hydrangea. I don't understand what you meant by that phrase. (Sounds like a plant received from a grandparent perhaps?) Mine don't require any amendment to the soil either as I explained by the variety. Is yours a Macrophilla? Or one of the other three varieties?
You did not mention what variety yours is or the name. I'll elaborate further: Mine are strawberry vanilla, Limelights and Little Limes.

You might just want to do a Google search, @BirkiLady
As I said, the variety is "antique."
You may wish to consider starting your own thread on other varieties.

I am not interested in any color other than what this "antique" variety is providing. I did not ask for any assistance in changing its coloration.
I know all about acidic and basic soil.
This thread took a really wrong turn.
I posted a simple picture.

@GingerPeach Antique hydrangeas are not a separate species from fresh Hydrangea macrophylla; the simple truth is that the majority of hydrangea blooms will naturally reach this unique, antiqued look given enough time and, of course, proper care and atmospheric conditions.

Not once did I say they were a separate SPECIES, @mousiegirl
I said they were a VARIETY.
Please read the OP, and disregard any other posts that I did not make. Those are completely irrelevant.
I do not need an education on hydrangeas or anything else. Good grief!
