Re: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

I buy and wear what I like and think looks good on me. I've had the same basic style for years. For me nothing is worse than seeing people wear something because it's "IN" and it does not suit their figure.

Re: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

When our local mall had a lot of stores and I worked, that would be my main source of inspiration.  I would people watch and also see what the latest things were in the stores.  Of course, I always had my own ideas and pretty much knew what looked good on me and what didn't.  Now, I rarely go any place, so I don't know what's in or out.  I also used to love the huge fashion magazines that came out in the fall.  That was wonderful!  The few stores I get to now, which isn't often, the majority of people are so casual and many don't look like they even care what they look like!  I see mostly yoga pants and the sports bra type things in the warm weather and t-shirts in the colder weather.  As far as what people are wearing in the office setting these days, I have no idea.  Now, I wear what I have in my closets, and when I do buy something new, it's just solely what I think is pretty and will suit me and my life now!

Re: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

I receive an email everyday called "Dressed for My Day" by Kay Harms.  Her emphasis is for women over 50 to look modern.  Some of her choices are spendy, but it is interesting to see what she suggests.  She also has a section at the end of each post called "Blessed for My Day" that I enjoy reading.  It's easy to subscribe to her blog and Youtube videos.

Like many of you, I also used to pour over the August issues of fashion magazines.  I miss that.  And I miss catalogs; I receive very few these days.  I am a people watcher and sometimes see some nice looks to inspire me.  Living in a resort area in the summer is interesting for fashion, good and bad.  I live such a simple life these days my fashion is simple, too.

[ Edited ]

I used to subscribe to fashion magazines too. I loved the trend issues in Spring & Fall. As I got older, what I was seeing in magazines just didn't reflect my style anymore so I stopped my subscriptions. I still enjoy seeing what the current trends are, but I tend to stick with classics. At my age I've seen trends come, go, and come back again.

I watch fashion videos on YouTube which sometimes gives me an idea of something to try or tweak. I still get the occasional catalog or see someone out and about that might inspire me, but I rarely go out of my comfort zone. The few times I did try something really different, I didn't feel like myself even though I thought the clothes looked good on me. I guess that tells me that my personal style is set and suits me best.

@Trinity11 I have my moms camel hair coat that I have had for years! I just love it and will continue to wear it! It’s very simple. Just a plain wrap. It funny how fashions repeat with a little something different. I have a coach bag I bought her back in the eighties! When I carry it I am asked often if I want to sell it. I saw one on tbe relived section of the coach website and they are selling them for over 500.00! Yikes!!

Re: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

I used to enjoy people watching at the malls and airports, etc. now it's not that much fun. Everyone is wearing black yoga pants, leggings, sweatshirts, jeans. Everyone is so casual these days, that I don't know who is buying and wearing the dressier clothes that store sell. People barely dress up for church anymore.

No inspiration.  I buy by color and style.  And of course prices matter to me. I do just fine from Walmart, Zulily and Blair.

More than anything I'd say by watching and noticing people.  I notice when people have a style that is similar to mine and I make a mental note when I'm inspired by a look I don't want to forget.

Re: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

I'm not really into fashion anymore--find it rather boring really. I  like to get a piece or 2 per year that is current-ish and in the new colors--if I like them of course, but mostly I have enough clothing for my lifestyle no matter the season. I  go thru yearly  to donate  things too. Nothing I have is junky or years and years old.
