What Are Your Challenges In Working With Color or Styles?

I met the sweetest, most unusual woman yesterday.  She was about 50, a teacher assistant, and she sincerely was baffled by putting items together to make an outfit. She couldn't grasp a fushia sweater and top with a black print skirt.  She questioned fushia with a black "print".

I spent an hour making outfits for her and showing her how to create a shape.

Her loving husband was very patiently showing her a few combinations.

Do you have color or design areas that give you a headache?

I guess I'm at a point in my life it really doesn't matter what other people think.

@hoosieroriginal,This was her comfort level.  She just wanted to look nice, she wasn't trying to impress at all. She needed clothes. Such a sweetheart.

When i wear a print I always pull the color for the solid piece to wear with it from the print. For instance if a skirt has black, teal, pink and lavender in the print  or background I will chose one of those colors for a top. If a skirt was a black & white print I would probably wear black or white on top, even though I know you can wear a different color like yellow or red - I'd be more likely to stay with black & white.

I love color.  For most of my life I had auburn hair and wore muted colors - beiges, browns, olives, etc.  I let my hair go gray and I went wild.  I do try to avoid black.  I think it is too harsh of a color for pale aging skin plus I would rather wear a more unexpected combination.  I look better in structured clothing.  I don't purchase all the loose tunics long tunics, etc.  I am also not a fan of polyester.

Is it possible that she just didn't like the color fuschia? No matter who told me to wear fuschia ...it truly is out of my comfort zone. Some people like their clothing to take a back seat to their appearance and prefer softer shades and less look at me colors.

I don't really have any problems with putting clothing together. I am a minimalist and only have a few really good pieces of clothing that I wear frequently. The criteria for me to add something to my wardrobe is that I have to love it. It has to be impeccably made and stand up to laundering. I send out my shirts to be washed and ironed but I rarely wear anything polyester, so silk, cotton and linen always come out better when sent to the cleaners than when I wash and iron them....

Love your topics @ECBG. I really enjoy them.

No challenges that I can think of.   I'm comfortable with my personal style and color choices.

I've never had any difficulty in putting together an outfit. I was taught early on in life how to dress with patterns and colors. As a child I never had to wear school uniforms so clothing choices were somewhat important and a big deal. I'm glad I had that opportunity growing up. I think that started the creativity ball rolling as far as being stylish with my clothing and it made me become more aware of what looks good together.

I'm 57 and I've been dressing myself since I was 9, so that door has closed.  I don't wear colored bottoms, that makes things very easy.  Whatever color I choose to go with on the top will coordinate with every skirt, pair of pants and pair of jeans that I own.
