@Deanie My thoughts exactly..The demographic QVC wants is not going to rush home from school or work and put on a Denim and Co. show nor are they going to buy .  Home shopping chanels must surely know- but don't care- that the older demographic category has more time and money to spend.  I'd rather watch an "old" Kathy Levine than these young, screeching women who are all xxxs and to me totally unrelatable. Surely there are women in their 40s and 50s who would make great hosts.

I'm so glad you brought this up. There is one lovely woman -I think her name is Toni - who has white hair and does a wonderful job of modeling, but she isn't on often enough.  I have to agree with you. It would be nice (and helpful) to see how some of the clothing items look on women of a more experienced age.  And I know there are many older ladies who still look wonderful - great figure and beautiful carriage.

A little more maturity would also help in the hiring of new hosts. I think that's one reason I enjoy the hosts & vendors who have been there for a while.  (Excluding Susan Graver)  A calmer demeanor and a more professional presention style.  No screaming or squealling and a miinimum of goofy dancing.  (Excluding the Happy Dancer who IMHO seems sadly lacking in maturity)

@Perkup  Excellent post--Toni is a wonderful model and has a very pleasant personality......And actually there are too many childish adult hosts....and they make themselves obvious!Watching less and less due to unappealing hosts and unappealing programming...

Toni models quite a bit for D&Co shows, although I haven't seen her recently. That could, of course, be her choice. There is also a lovely older model named Judith who models for D&Co sometimes; she is quite petite. I can also think of Mary, Maria (dark hair), Maria (blonde), and Sioux. Also, there is a fairly large group of models who are more "in the middle" (that is, not 20- and 30-somethings).

Re: WHERE ARE OLDER MODELS?

[ Edited ]

"Age appropriate " is not a rule I use to determine what clothing I might like. There is no definition of what is age appropriate for any given age. There is no agreement on what one "can" and "cannot"wear based simply on chronological age.

I look for a body type similar to mine and make my decision from there. I don't care what their face looks like.

@Shanus The only clothing shows I watch are D&C and they use a number of older models. Can't speak about any other clothing shows.

I want to see all ages, sizes, and ethnicities on the fashion shows. We are all one country.

I noticed that Bob Mackie and Loius de Olio only use the beautiful tall women in their presentations. I wish they would add a plus size or petite. I am not plused size, but most of America appears to be so they need to be represented.

Show diversity that what we are.

Just for me (and I am old), being restricted to styles blessed by an “older” model wearing “age appropriate” clothing would make me run for the hills.  I would prefer to decide for myself.

@Still Raining

Same here.

I don't even know what "age approprate" clothing is!

One thing about the models ... it's a really big turnoff when you see them wearing things that don't fit properly.

If that fit is what the designer had in mind (and usually designer is standing right there) ...and that's the kind of impression they want to their clothes to convey ... I don't want any part of their clothing!

@ALRATIBA   Since I’m short and tiny, I tend to look “girlish” in what I consider clothing not age appropriate for me. Think Susan Lucci: She’s usually in fitted, sophisticated dresses or clothing and high heels....that’s not my style, but it is my height and weight. I also don’t wear a lot of makeup. Put me in a too youthful, GAP or Limited outfit, I can look like a Grandma trying to look like a college kid...in a college town w/ thousands of others dressed in message tees, torn jeans, flip flops, ponytails, etc. Of course, each woman has their definition of age appropriate. Many good designers have eliminated their petite lines, so petite  depts. are left w/ ruffled sleeves, mini skirts, athliesure wear, cropped tops, torn sweats, tight clothing....They assume someone my size must must be a pre-teen. Yikes!!

so many questions, I wish I had the patience to answer all........the "older" blonde model I believe you reference is Maria who is definitely in her 60's (has said so herself) and models for Bob Mackie and other more traditional vendors/designers. As I often do, I find the model, not the  host that resembles me in the abdomen, rear and bust and judge accordingly. also use the measurements online if you are shopping online. Most if not all of the models come through Joy's agency and are in specific categories - fitness, fashion, jewelry, beauty etc. Check out the agency online if you wish.

As for Jane - she is short, wears a lot of non qvc clothes and high end clothes come or at least they used to in "vanity sizes"  to make clients think they wore a smaller size. As a teen, I was given two sample dresses from a family friend in the business - they were a 10 and teenage me wore a  junior dept. 13..........Besides it is a number. I really think hosts and models try to help as much as they can with telling their sizing.

Jayne Brown is a good example. She used to wear a large in QVC now a Medium, as she lost weight a few years ago. Pat will tell you if she is wearing a small or medium depending on the garment - no one is one size all the time.

Also with regard to older models and beauty(lips etc.) - who has the full lips??????

Just buy the size you need and enjoy your lives, ladies.

When the beauty vendors are selling lip gloss/lipstick, they always use a model with full lips....never an older lady with thin lips. And yes, it does make a huge difference. The products look lovely on them, and don't look so good on customers who don't have the same lips. This creates returns, which cost us money.

I don’t care if they are young or old.  Noting how tall they are doesn’t help me except if it’s an item of length like a duster for example.  Just bcause you are 5’6” doesn’t mean you are a small, or 5’2 1/2” an xxs.  Weight would help me.

Can't speak about other clothing shows but on D&C I've seen white, black and Asian models of ages ranging from probably early 20's to 50's or older. Also have seen a good variety of body types as well.
