I've been a Talbots customer for decades, and have found that in recent years, their sizing is wildly inconsistent. Their sales staff has confirmed that, and say fit can vary within the same style and size, depending on the fabric. One of them said that it had to do with Talbots switichng to laser cutting of the pieces to be sewn. I've had fit problems when buying from their catalogue, and suggested to them that they publish customer reviews so shoppers could learn from the experiences of others, not unlike QVC or J. Jill, for example..Talbots will take catalogue returns in the store, but after buying a drees in my usual size which hung on my like a sack, I don't even wnat to bother with that. Now I only buy what I can try on at Talbots, especially when they have their sales!. I hope this helps.

The Talbots website has had customer reviews available for quite some time. I order most everything online and return at my local store.

Remember that Talbots changed their fit models in the last few years and so if you are buying older stuff, it may not fit like the newer stuff.

I wouldn't risk it unless it was a super cheap bargain.

Used to just LOVE TAlbots.  "MY" Talbots had the greatest sales people.  I shopped there for probably 20 years and shopped often - at least a couple times a month.  Fast forward to about five years ago....the qualtity wasn't the same, sales all the time, sales ladies all left, the store eventually closed and it was a larger one.  The couple small pop up stores in small outdoor areas just arent the same to me.  I used to be able to pick up my size - Petite 4 and know that it would always fit.  A few weeks ago I tried on white pants and couldn't get over the sizing differences and quality from years back!  I think they still have some darling things, but very rarely do I purchase.  I miss "my" store!
