To be honest, I am really not surprised that they charged you for the boxes.  Everyplace that I have shopped online charges for boxes.  Every season I check to see if there is a policy change and additional charges.   Also if you see something on their website and it is sold out online but available in the stores, you pay shipping but if you go to the store and ask them to get it for you, there is no shipping charge.

@Danielle46 What you say isn't true for me.  As a Premier cardholder, I always get free shipping on any item I order.

I just went through the online ordering process and clicked on gift options when completing my order.  A new page came up showing two different gift packing options with two, different prices.  You have to specifically select the option you want or click on no gift options to continue.  the prices are clearly shown and you do have to select the one you want or select none so I am not sure why you were surprised that you were charged for the gift wrap purchase.

I can't figure out why she's surprised either.

I wonder what the OP's return rate is.  It must be very high!

@Bri36  Huh?   And I can't figure out what on earth the number of returns has to do with anything the OP  - that would be I  - posted about charging for gift boxes that they never used to charge for online?  That just doesn't make sense.  As for my return rate at Talbots, why on earth "must it" be high?   People shouldn't assume what they don't know.

@KathyPet  Last year and in previous years the gift boxes & tissue have been free.   I had thought so and the store manager confirmed that - she said this is the first year they are charging online for the gift options.

@KathyPet.. sorry to hear about the staffing shortage. What a time for that to happen. That's exactly why I wished you good luck for the balance of the holiday shopping season. Hang in there, stay well, and hope it goes quickly for you!

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

sorry Pearly, you are correct.  Premiere card holders don’t pay shipping but asking for boxes adds more to the weight which is why most online retailers will charge for them.  Going to the store and getting them will eliminate the charge.
