Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

I notice that my Talbots "saves" the gifts and other goodies for their regulars and if you ask for it, they seem put out and say "they'll check to see if they have any left."  They take their time thinking I'll leave without it.

I get that the sales reps want to treat their regulars very well.  I used to be a regular, but 95% of what I want is online only these days, so unless I am returning, I rarely go in.

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

I've mentioned that I do not like my local Talbots. They're unorganized, don't carry items that are shown available online at their store and don't seem to know how to navigate ordering online for me in store so that I can save shipping. They're all perfectly nice but just not on top of things.

Thankfully, the company listened to me and has agreed to give me free shipping so that I can just shop online.

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

To be honest, I am really not surprised that they charged you for the boxes.  Everyplace that I have shopped online charges for boxes.  Every season I check to see if there is a policy change and additional charges.   Also if you see something on their website and it is sold out online but available in the stores, you pay shipping but if you go to the store and ask them to get it for you, there is no shipping charge.

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

What tricks do they pull?  Are you referring to regular Talbots or their outlet stores?  I have two regular Talbots near me and one in particular, I go to all the time.  They all know me by name, that is how much business I do with them.   I don't think they have pulled any tricks and I am not aware of any free gifts they give their regular customers.  Can you  tell me more about it.

If it says on the website the boxes cost, what is the problem?  I am missing something.

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

@Danielle46.. your question involves a couple different
Posters and I can answer the 1 question w/ a recent example. There was a sign by the cashmere sweaters that said yoke rib cashmere for $69.50- original price $149.00. The sales associate charged me $75.00. I had to walk thru the store , get the sign , and show it to her at the register since we had a brief disagreement about the price. Then
there was a thing up at the register on how she couldn't
put in the sale price in the computer and the mgr
had to be called over. So then the high end lady customers were watching. I don't need that on my
Shopping trip after a hard, long day at the office..They should have meetings before they go
onto the sales floor and know their promotions and prices..And then
The shopping bag thing that I spoke about earlier.. lol. Good nite..

The “free gifts” being referred to are special promotions Talbots runs and advertises on their web site, through E mail and through sending mailers to customers.  The last one was a few weeks ago and was a free pin if you purchased a certain $ amount of merchandise.  The advertisements clearly state that the number of free pins is limited.  My store received about two dozen to,give away.  They were gone in the first 45 minutes we were open.  No one (at least at my store) held any back for any “special customers”. Va-Belle, Do you have proof that your statement saying that some gifts were held back for special customers is true?

As as far as the charge for boxes and tissue on line it does cost to ship these boxes out.  You can go into a store and get boxes for free.  We give boxes to customers all the time.  They simply come in and ask for them and we provide them for free no questions asked.  The cost to get a gift box and tissue included in your on line order is very clearly stated and is optional.  You have to specifically choose to add it and the cost is shown on the final page before you click on “Place Order” so there is no reason to be surprised when the charge appears on your order form.

I just went through the online ordering process and clicked on gift options when completing my order.  A new page came up showing two different gift packing options with two, different prices.  You have to specifically select the option you want or click on no gift options to continue.  the prices are clearly shown and you do have to select the one you want or select none so I am not sure why you were surprised that you were charged for the gift wrap purchase.

I can't figure out why she's surprised either.

I wonder what the OP's return rate is.  It must be very high!

Re: Talbots Online Buyers Beware

I don't understand why, if these posters have such problems with Talbot's, they continue to shop there.  ???

Is the merchandise that special? Or is it just fun to vent?
