SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WENESDAY, DECEMBER 28th)

Good Afternoon/Evening!  We are certainly not having nice weather here -- rainy, cool, and very windy at times.  I have always disliked it when the weather turned cooler during the day rather than warmer which is the case today.  But, I know the weather is much worse in other parts of the country.

On the positive side, the plumber came, drained my hot water heater, and said that it didn't need to be replaced soon.  When he first came, he sort of tried to talk me into buying a new hot water heater, but I insisted he try to drain this one and let me know if it was okay.  Glad that I insisted.  He told me that it is a very good idea to have a water softener (I do) since it helps prevent some of the sediment build-up in hot water heaters that causes problems.  He also said that they recommend not putting too much salt in the water softener since they can be very heavy if they need to be moved/replaced.

I am hoping to put aside money each month so that I can replace the hot water heater next year or so without  blowing my savings.

I attempted to donate the espresso machine at my favorite thrift shop, but it was closed.  So, I ended up donating it and a few other things (including some clothes) to another place.

Yesterday, the hospice volunteer coordinator forgot to include the envelopes I needed to mail the letters, so I picked them up today.  And, I went to the grocery store(s).  Some good bargains -- zucchini and grapes, but most things had gone up another few cents at least.  Pasta was much more expensive, and the eggs, flour, etc., were very high.  Glad I didn't need more eggs and flour this week.

Oldest DGS and his wife and dog did make it to Maryland, but they are not sure if they will be able to go to visit DD and the rest of the South Carolina family on New Year's Eve day due to airline problems.

Hope you and your husband had fun with your friends this afternoon, Glenda.  Waves to Bernie, Fressa, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

Linda L, our, weather is pretty decent, but it will be windy tomorrow & in the 40's so I am not complaining.  I am glad that you talked the plumber into draining the hot water heater.  These items can be expensive.  It's too bad about your dgs and airline problems.

I am not sure if I will be going to see the 40 decorated Christmas trees.  It's supposed to be this week, but the lady is exhausted from hosting Christmas for 18 people on Monday.  We had a nice visit at the gym yesterday.

We had a fun time playing cards with our friends, but us gals lost every game.  My bf from HS is coming up here tomorrow with a good friend of hers and we are going to play cards with the same deck of cards.  They are from our ds and ddil recent trip to Dublin.

I am looking forward to NYE.  Not sure if we will get a carry out from our favorite Italian restaurant or eat in.  It's more fun to eat in. Despite it possibly raining, we will bring in 2023 with a wine cooler in the hot tub.

Hugs to all of you.

Glenda

Linda @LindaLatte

I'm glad that you bought some time on the water heater.  Aside from the cost increase of actual water heaters, installation in my part of the world is what costs an arm and a leg.   I'm so glad that your DGS and his wife made it to their destination.  The entire SW airlines situation remains ridiculous to me.  They really need to rethink having hubs so the entire system doesn't crash.

Glenda @twinny70  when I read that you new someone who put up 40 Christmas trees my first thought was that lady is a saint.  I thought I was gonna lose my religion when my pre-lit little 6 foot tree started going dark in sections.
