I wash clothing/lingerie that I buy before I ever wear it, so the tags have to come off, but I do save them in case I have to return the item (s) Everything gets washed/dried on the delicate cycle or if the item is delicate or has lace on it, it's hung to dry. If the item doesn't fare well during washing/drying, it gets returned. (shrinkage, twisted seams, pilling)

I also wash lingerie, sheets, towels before using, but I only cut the tags and wash if I am sure I keeping the item.

Of course if it fell apart in the wash I would return.

Towels- I only buy 1-2 and we wash and use a few times before I buy a set.  If the towel does not wash and wear well I chalk it up to a loss and try another brand.

I have to admit it never occurred to me that I could buy a whole set, wash, use and return sets of towels, etc.

This is quite liberating.

Returning "worn" items to the store has been going on forever.    I remember when I was in high school..........the girls would put masking tape on the soles of their shoes so they wouldn't show any "wear".............and then peel the tape off, and return the shoes after their "big date".   Uh......I've HAD my 50th reunion (!!)

Do you return clothes after wearing?

@Abrowneyegirl   I have never returned worn clothing.   There is ONE exception:   A brand new dress shirt (in the right size) that my husband wore ONCE, pulled apart at the flat-fell seams in the wash.   I took it back to the store (Robinson's) wet........and they gave me a refund.

Ha HA ha!!! I would have down the same thing!!  LOL

It's part of "The Customer Is Always Right".

They'll do anything to keep you coming back to that store.

Yes, I am from another generation and sometimes I think from another world!! In my world there are morals - apparently not everywhere.

To me, buying something, wearing or using it and returning without any thought of paying is the same as stealing.  I see no difference. You can call it anything you want, but the fact is, there's no difference in just walking out of the store without paying,  and taking it home with the intent to return it used. The two are really the same. You take it, you use it, and since your account is credited for the item you never pay for that use.  Further, you are subjecting others to your germs, cooties or whatever.  If somethig proves defective - legitimately defective - that is another story.

How would you feel if someone just "borrowed" your credit cards, your car or your husband, used them, and then returned them. Would you be ok with that?

I'm on the same page as most of you women here, who say you'd never return worn clothing (with an occasional exception). Please don't blame a salesclerk, though, for having no backbone when it comes to accepting a return. Policy is set by management, and the sales staff has to abide by that policy, like it or not. I've worked retail, and it made me sick to accept some of the returns, but it wasn't my call to make. Those stories would make an interesting thread....

@Abrowneyegirl -

Yes, you are indeed a dinosaur. Smiley Wink

I don't purchase items planning to return them after using. I am aware that some do that.

I wash most clothing before wearing and, if it can't hold up, shrinks, etc. I will return it. I recall buying a pair of activewear pants at a local store & asking if they would shrink much. I was told I could return them if they did. They shrunk several inches & I returned them.

Items ordered online are tried on before any tags (paper ones, I don't remove sewn on tags) are removed. I don't cut them off unless I think I am going to keep them. But they still have to pass the wash test. If something falls apart or pills badly, etc. upon first use, it is likely to be returned. Keeping things like that would be allowing the store to cheat me - I thought I was buying a quality item.

When I return things it is for good reason, not because I am trying to cheat the store out of money.

I look at it as stealing also....

I would never do that.  I know people who do though.

That's why special occasion dresses have those special tags on them in a prominent place.   If they are removed, the item cannot be returned.

I only take the tags off when I'm sure I'm keeping it.   I have vary rarely returned an item because of a defect - maybe once or twice.

@Perkup You bring up a very interesting perspective!  I love it.

Using the 'younger youth' logic I should be able to walk out of store with a pair new pants on my behind and as long as I bring them back OR pay for them in 30 days all is good.

It is like a community closet....yeah!!!  ((((gross)))))

Thank you Perk this is great!

Or...........you could just break something...........and send the pieces back for a refund.   The "possibilities" are limitless..................
