Where we used to live in California there was as pumpkin patch....a farm.  We would take our daughter there when she was little.  I live in the Southeast now and there are farms about an hour away that have pumpkin patches.  They will also have hayrides, treats, etc.  And since it's also a working farm, they have produce to buy.

There are many apple orchards and pumpkin patches that have events and activities for the public, especially children.  The big one near me advertises that there are 14 acres of pumpkins of all sizes and types.  You choose your pumpkin.  They sell baked goods and apple cider and there are some farm animals.  It's nice outing for a Fall day.  However, certain no one gets all dressed up to for that.  It's jeans sneakers.

Most of the things they suggest for going to the pumpkin patch are not really "dress up" clothes—they're usually things I like plaid shirts or sweatshirts in fall colors, etc.
