Silk? Satin? The finest of cashmere? Irish linen, maybe? They probably could..but..no one would pay the prices they would have to charge. Not to mention that most modern women live fast, buys lives and we want ease and convience. No one wants to be tethered to a dry cleaner. You do know that clothing that cost hundreds of dollars are also made from synthetics and blends? You should know that, it is 2014.

A large majority of us don't like to iron or pay to send items to the cleaners. Therefore, poly or poly blends either eliminates or reduces that time and expense. Many of us today live in a hurry up world with so many things to do.........our jobs, family, cooking, cleaning, etc.........the list goes on and on. So poly is easier, cheaper, more durable, even if it will never be as nice as linen, silk, fine, wool and cotton. I do cherish a nice wool sweater, a pair of linen pants in the summer, a silk blouse in my favorite wine shade and a crisp, ironed white shirt on my DH{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}............

So you are calling yourself a middle aged hefty? Okay. Since you say you shop everywhere, including high end stores, maybe you should just stick to those...and their websites. That way you can shop without being bombarded with polyester. Oh wait, there are plenty of polyester and poly blends in those stores too. In fact it's really popular among lots of the high end designers.Darn!

There are no synthetics where SHE shops. I still can't get past the "hefty" thing; still cracking me up. She'll make a lot of friends with that one.

By the way,you do know athletes do not work out in cotton, right? Athletic clothes that most wear are poly blend. They are COOL and dry fast and do not rub the skin to irritation.

On 7/29/2014 violann said: I buy and love Modal at QVC, and it's hard to come by elsewhere. I buy 100% wool sweaters, cotton jeans. Several Breezies garments are cotton or cotton blend. I don't like poly and I prefer not to buy it, but there are some blends I've been very happy with. If you don't want to join the "middle age hefties" you might want to do something about your heftiness, because doing something about middle age is a whole lot tougher. The TSV yesterday was originally shown on a plus sized woman, and she has also shown swim suits.

Interesting that this subject came up. I recently purchased some Liz Claiborne items from JC Penney. One of the items if cotton and modal. I washed it as advised and it shrunk, needed ironing and is kind of sclumpy if you know what I mean. Modal is also in several tops that I purchased as Target and they lost all of their shape and were only good for pj tops after being washed. I was wondering if there is a trick to the % of Modal before it is any good.

Well, since there are so many of us Hefties out here, maybe we could just stock up on big, black lawn & garden bags.

I have (and love) several tops in cotton/modal from Land's End. Such a soft, drapeable, wearable blend!

I find that many clothing sellers nowadays accommodate middle age (and older and younger) "hefties". There are a lot of plus size women -- including me -- who like nice clothes and appreciate being included in the fashion mix. Regardless of natural vs. synthetic fibers, many department stores and online sellers offer well-stocked plus size departments, so it's easier than ever to find nice clothing in larger sizes -- at QVC and elsewhere.
