I wash all of my clothing on the gentle cycle, including jeans, putting in like fabrics and/or like colors.
I also always dry everything on no-heat. For clothing I dry on the permanent press cycle, and for towels I dry on the timed cycle.
Only time I wash anything separately is if there is nothing else to put with it, and I want/need that particular garment right away.

When I have a new item that looks like it may bleed (dark or deep color) I soak it in a bucket of water first. Let the excess dye come out, then the item goes into the washer with similar items.
This is easy as I have a laundry room with a sink. I hate hand washing clothes. I use the delicate cycle, putting bras and undies in a lingerie bag. Items are dried on low.

I don’t wash anything separately and anything that has color that could bleed I throw in color guard sheets and never have any issues. I swear by them. Then I hang dry everything. So, no laundry issues ever doing things this way.

I never wash anything separately. I take a little Woolite and hand wash the item in my bathroom sink. I pay attention to what happens when the garment first gets wet to see if, and how much, color bleeds, and also how the fabric seems to react.. Depending on what happens, I will either continue to hand wash the item each further time, or pop it in the washing machine with a full load.

Ignore it. I don't have anything that is that expensive that I would be sorry if it got ruined and anyway I've never had any problem throwing "wash separately" in with my other laundry. Same with "hang to dry" In the dryer it goes on delicate, low heat cycle. No problems so far.

I always thought that was separately was for the first time only ..... and then cold water delicates with like colors in the future.

For me, it depends. If the article is a color that will bleed excessively, I wash it by itself the first time, then use color guard sheets when I wash it again with like colors. I love those sheets.
If the item is delicate, I will either wash it alone or put it in a mesh bag or a pillow case tied closed with like colors.
I am extremely picking about my clothing care. I seldom use a dryer for most of my clothing. I mainly wear cotton which is not a dryer friendly fabric.

I wash separately, although depending on the reason I may group with other items of similiar color if it's a color thing, or items without any way to snag if it's a delicate issue.

It has always been a fact of my laundry day to have to wash some things separately! It is time consuming and as far as a waste of water I always use a low water setting on my machine! I also hang some things to dry! I feel I have to do these things to protect our clothing!!![]()

It depends on why. If it's apt to bleed, I'll wash separately.
If it's fragile or an embellished top or graphic tee, I'll turn it inside out to protect the more fragile side. I wash on cold water, short cycle along with similar things.
I'm more concerned about preserving my clothes than using a little extra water or wear and tear on the washer.
