What do you do when a blouse or tee shirt says machine wash separately? It is wasteful to wash each item separatel.  It is also tiring and time conseming.  Is there a solution??

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

I follow laundering instructions to a T, except I throw everything in the drier. I can't stand to have wet clothing  all over the place

My drier is new, and doesn't get very hot. I'm short so if things shrink a bit it doesn't matter

Diane Gilmans jeans shrink but that's OK with me

So far as laundering things separately, I would do it, until you are sure they don't bleed, You don't want to ruin a batch of clothing

If it is delicate put  it in a bag to wash it, They keep things from  getting too beat up

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

It depends.  If it's a color thing, I wash it with like colors.

If it's a details/texture thing that will get ruined agitating with other fabrics, I might put it in a lingerie bag and wash it with like materals.  I wouldn't put it in with towels or jeans or something that would hurt the fabric or rip off embellishments.

If it a black clothing item wash it with darks to be sure it don’t bleed. If not I put the item in with my other delicates that I gentle wash and never had an issue.

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

Nope, I rarely and I mean rarely, ever wash anything separately.  I am like you, I hate to waste all the water on just one little thing.  If I had to wait for awhile to wash it until I have more things to make a load that is suitable, then I do.  If it is a color that looks like it will bleed a lot, then I am very careful what I put it in with. As for hanging things --- I am a big hanger person!  I don't my good tops, slacks, etc. to get dried in the dryer.  I am lucky that I have a large room in the basement that I can do this.

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

If it says wash separately then I do. I only don't when I'm either certain it won't matter or I'm getting tired of the item and if something goes awry I won't care terribly.

I never dry nice clothes (work clothes) in the dryer.

My dryer is old and tends to run hot.

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

I just don't think washing something separately is that big a deal or time consuming.  Throw it in, adjust the water level (our machine does that automatically), press the start button and go about my day.  It's a 10 second transaction.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Only if its a dark color that will bleed.  I usually wash it several times alone if it really bleeds a lot in the first wash.

Get a separate basin (plastic) just for some of the "special items" to do by hand.

Re: Machine Wash Separately ???

I don’t buy anything that requires special laundry instructions. No dry clean only, no hand wash, hang dry, no wash separately. If it can’t be washed in my regular load it stays in the store.
