Then if it wasn't  a scam, it is very poor business sense.  I don't take orders for woven runners or overlay bags  I create if I cannot do what the customer wants or if I don't like what he/she requests.  So what do you think now.  I still think it reaks of a scam to attract potential customers.  But how many  new customers will return after treated like this???

Apples and orange comparison.  You apparently have a small business and have complete control over your inventory.  Not a scam.  It can easily happen in such a large business.

@comedy clubber, no "reaks" of anything. Stuff happens.

@comedy clubber

What's the Q's payoff for this 'scam'? Kicks and giggles watching the backlash?

I just don't see a positive return on this activity...

First of all, it is both deceitful as well as fraudulent to sell products which do not exist.  If you do this with money, it is called a Ponzi scheme.  Think about that, know it all!!!

Secondly, I own no business.  I weave as a hobby and either give or charge minimally for items requested.  All of my items are given/sold by word of mouth.  I make $0 dollars with this hobby/project.  Retired, I am now a caregiver for my handicapped room mate and weaving is my way to pass time.

A few years ago, I had a similar problem with Travelsmith.  Placed an order for in stock clothing that was later put on advanced order. When that date came, the order was delayed again and again.  I finally just cancelled it because I did not believe Travelsmith would ever fulfill the order.

That was a very disappointing experience.
