Sorry OP, but you're a little out of the loop .... Greige has been around for a very long time ......  if I had to put a very fine point on it, greige is a darker version of taupe ... they aren't the same color.

I think combining gray and beige is light taupe!  Gray combined with brown is taupe and has been for a long time.

I was a teen in the 60's and never heard that word then or now to describe two colors meshed. Again, in the 60's I lived in a podunk town and still do.LOL
