I wouldn't go, just send a gift. Weddings are already expensive and now you want me to buy an outfit I'm going to wear once. No thank you. I'm not into playing dress up for anyone. I would wear something appropriate but certainly not formal. I'm sure there will be other guests who won't be dressed formally.

@Meowingkitty

Weddings are very costly for the couple hosting.

I've read that the average wedding guest costs the couple $200 each.

Of course, you don't need to play "dress up" for anyone, but it's shocking what some consider "dressing appropriately" these days.  Yikes!

You also don't need to buy something you will only wear once.  Select something nice that you can wear again.

Or, stay home.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but be careful of Rosewe, Modlily, Rotita and those types of headless ads on Facebook. They can be sketchy, and you may not recieve the item shown in the pics.

I'm seeing/hearing more and more where the bride is dictating to the guests what to wear which, IMHO, is being disrespectful to the guests.  I've not received a wedding invitation with that request but if I did, I'd stay home.

@shoptilyadropagain

Disrespectful to the guests?  Seriously?

At first, I thought you were joking, but maybe not.

Keep this in mind .... many women actually think about their future weddings for years, and know what they want.

The bride and groom (or whoever) will be paying thousands and thousands of dollars on a very special event, and the pictures will be cherished forever.

People dressed inappropriately will stick out like sore thumbs.

Bottom line ... it's their party and their money.  They get to decide how it will be.

The idea that guests should feel insulted to be "dictated to" and should wear whatever they want is what's really ... really .... disrespectful.

Stay home.

@I am still oxox This would be perfect for a spring wedding in my area. I believe you live in New York, where the dress you showed us awhile back would be perfect for your area, as well as others. Colors, as well as black, are very popular in my neck of the woods.

@foxywoods Love what you wore to your occasion. The fact it only was part velvet, and of course the style is more suitable for Spring/summer, rather than as you say, thicker and more obviously holiday season type velvet dress, made yours appropriate for your occasion. So pretty.

You are right...I've always felt that too, about shawls & wraps....you do tend to fuss with them. If you're only wearing it going from outside to inside then taking it off, I guess that'd be ok. But they are kind of a pain that way. A sheer topper sounds perfect. Anyway, love your dress.

@I am still oxox And that's fine for you. But pastels are very acceptable in formal wear in many other areas...that's all I was saying.
