I prefer local especially for clothing.  I still haven't found the secret to buying clothing that actually fits me online.  It's hit or miss.  In a B&M store, I can try on to my heart's content.

I used to shop Belk a lot, but over the years, especially after Covid, their selections have been disappointing.  However, I was recently in there and found some slim leg pants that were perfect.  It's been many years since I've bought a pair of dress slacks due to fit issues and I didn't like the fabric, too stiff.  These draped so nicely.  So, I went back to the Petite's section and found another pair in a different color.  And I didn't even have to hem them.

I'll often shop Costco, Target, Khols, etc. for clothing items and I don't believe the name brands at Costco are a lesser quality than elsewhere.  If I like an item, I'll wear it for years.

I don't shop B&M so much any more for other things except Home Depot and the Nursery because I hate driving around trying to find things.  If I have high confidence that a local B&M has what I want, then I will shop there.  I often check on Ulta's website to see if either of the stores close to me has what I'm looking for.  It's a win for them, since I like to wander around the store and often pick up other items too.  I don't really wander when I'm shopping online.

You are just an hour's (or so) drive to Birmingham. I could shop to my heart's desire if I had days and money to spend at the Summit.  Do you ever shop there?  It's a great place and I love Bon Maur at the Galleria.  I have a son who lives in that area and when we go there, which is every few years, I love to go shopping.

@NonametodayNo, I really don't have anyone to go with and I'm not comfortable driving around B'ham.  I have a friend who used to go to a doctor there on a regular basis and I sometimes rode shotgun, but time was limited and what time we spent shopping, she wanted to shop thrift or discount-style stores.  I'd love to go and eat at Pappadeaux there too.  Is that by the Summit?  I really don't know my way around. I used to go to Galleria with another friend, but we don't really do much together anymore.

I used to go to Clear Lake TX (outside of Houston) a lot for work and was very familiar with the Pappa chains, Pappa's Seafood, Pappacito's Mexican, and Pappadeax.  I was a bit more adventurous back then and even drove into Houston to the big mall that has a skating rink in it.  Yep, I took my skates, but there is also a rink in Clear Lake that I usually skated at.

Pappadeaux is not far from the Summit.  It is on what is called Grandview Parkway which is probably 5-10 minutes from the Summit.  More like 6 minutes, I think. Our DIL had ovarian cancer surgery there and it was close enough I could shop at the Summit.  I still like to go to the Galleria.  The Summit has more great store and when we are there just on a visit, I cannot decide where I want to shop. (LOL).

I just checked and Pappadeaux is 0.7 miles from the  Summit.  You turn left when you leave the Summit and per Google, it is less than a mile on the right, near Grandview Medical Complex.  Beautiful hospital.  It was intended for a high-end office for HealthSouth CEO, Richard Schrushy and if you recall, he went to prison.

Re: Forgot about brick and mortar shops

@NonametodayBack in the day, I used to really like to go to Macy's in Galleria.  I don't remember what the other anchor stores were.  Thee days, I think Macy's is maybe one step up from Belk from what I've heard.  What stores are in the Summit?

Here, I really liked Parisian clothes, but needed to wait for a sale to shop there.  Then, Belk bought them.  They were still pretty good for awhile.

I grew up with a Belk Hudsons in my little town, but we never shopped there.  My mother made most of my clothing.  We didn't buy store-bought clothing very often.

Much better deals can be found at B&M stores than at QVC. Exchanges are simpler and no S&H. Do whatever works best for you.

i totally agree!

i just bought a pair of black, high dress boots, Naturalizer at Macy's for $40!  on clearance!

i bought a pair of black dress boots at Nordstrom for $99.  i bought those first, before the ones from Macy's, same day.

they did not have my size in stock.  they shipped to my house for free.  no  time limit to return.  i can ship back for free, return to N. or N. Rack.  so easy!!   and they were here in 3 days....

i am returning the ones from N. b/c i am keeping the ones from Macy's since they are more comfy, cheaper and will get occasional use.

i returned a pair of earrings to Q.  they sent the wrong ones!  called to tell them, got a cool response, no incentive from rep. to keep them.  no offer of exchange.  that was 2 weeks ago and still no evidence of them receiving the return.  i returned them the day i received them.....just bad business.

honestly they are stuck in the past and really need to up their game or they will fold.

@RetRN @hkrgrl    Macys is my "go to" store for clothing and shoes.  I never had to return anything.  Prices are reasonable...nice variety of quality clothing....petites available...and free shipping.  Works for me.  🤗
