@Group 5 minus 1   Qyality is not just how it washes IMO. I check seams, how the inside of the garment is finished inside and out. I check if buttons are sewn on tightly so I don't have to redo it. If there's a collar on a jacket or blazer I check that maybe it has extra fabric so I can pop it up.

I used to think only expensive items had quality, but depending on the manufacturer the garments can be quality.

I consider most of the fabrics in Q's clothes to be low quality. Polyester and spandex are their primary fabrics and, IMO, are inexpensive and cheap feeling. For me, it's like wearing a plastic bag because it doesn't breathe and holds in body heat.

I always shop around for clothes. I can always find more natural fabrics/blends, even no-iron cotton, for less money than Q charges for cheap synthetic fabrics.

For me, quality is determined by the fabric and the construction.

Fabric:  knitted or woven with substance that makes it durable

Construction:  sewing or knitting that is strong and long lasting

Design, fit, and price are important, but different from what I look for when I think of quality.

The only thing I think about when quality comes up, is--do the plaids, stripes , obvious patterns--match at the side seams? Or other places that are obvious? Have a real thing about that. I bought a mans shirt at Target----for under $20---it was a plaid flannel and the plaids all matched beautifully. I don't buy clothing online---would rather go in person. But have seen that little faux pas on many brands.

Re: Define quality

[ Edited ]

Quality to me:

quality fabric

even seams

sewn well

flat elastic that does not flip

liner in jacket/coat sewn properly, meaning lining does not show in cuffs/slides out

up to date fashion, not copying from 10 years ago

thoughful details:  eg, buttons, snaps, color of thread etc..

correct fit, not just 'sewn together'

the brands from Q that i like:  PLW, Laurie Felt ( she retired), liverpool, driftwood, Joan Rivers some, not all, CCB (she's gone) some not all.

edited to add:  i also agree that Walmart, Amazon, target etc are not quality clothes.  maybe some here or there but TBH, i don't buy clothes from those retailers.  just household goods.

@Shanus It certainly isn't all about that. I used it as one example.

I have always found most all QVC clothing brands to be significantly better quality than anything at Walmart or Target. Some of the best made Q brands are, in my opinion, Susan Graver, Stacy London, Isaac, D&C, and Dennis Basso. There is nothing necessarily low quality about a human made fabric (polyester, spandex). Insisting on all natural fabrics is (again, in my opinion) is a really old-fashioned idea (cool in the 80s). Virtually all modern designers use non-natural fabrics today. I would never prefer anything 100% cotton, for example. So, negative comments about Q being lesser in quality because of fabric choices seems very ill-informed, in my opinion.

Quality to me is something that lasts more than a year?

Quality to me is how a garment hangs and flows on the body. Expensive garments look expensive because of the way they're cut and formed to the body. Cheap garments just don't hang right.
