Does anyone know how to order a cardigan according to the size you wear? I saw a cardigan today on Isaac's show and the chest size for a 1X was 25". Why can't they figure out the sizing instead of customers trying to figure it out?

Sometimes, for whatever reason, the measurement for just the back of the garment is given. So, IMO, 25" would equate to a 50" chest measurement, which sounds about right for a 1X.

Sweaters that do not "close" and are meant to be open in front, only give the measurements for the back, and sometimes the back waist. The best guess would to double it.

Often the "modern" cardigan has an open front, no buttons, with no definitive starting point from which to measure. I figure if the back is 25", the front is at least that much plus some overlap making it 50+" plus being knit, they are usually stretchy. There is some leeway in sizing; I'd go with my normal size.
