@gmkb wrote:Good morning everyone. Not a good week for me - received a diagnosis of breast cancer. Saw a round of doctors regarding chemo and surgery. Everything moves at a hurry up and wait pace. Any advice for this very claustrophobic woman to get thru a breast MRI next week would be appreciated.
sorry to hear of this.
I had an MRI this past summer, ask them for the biggest one they have, take xanax before, keep your eyes closed. They talk you through it. It is nosier than you expect.
Leave your jewelry at home as well
You can get through it, I cancelled one and went to the other facility where they have a bigger machine.

@Buttercups wrote:@gmkb So sorry - hugs to you. Have several friends who've been through and going through it. Re the MRI - They are more open than they used to be. I've had a couple and they're nervewracking but technicians are sensitive about people's feelings about it.
Do you have family to take you, stay with you during?
Maybe you can phone to facility before hand to ask what to expect, how long it takes, etc. Then there's always xanax. Don't mean to be glib, but it's something to consider, a low dose to relax.

I've had open for a couple of things, which I managed. Can only used closed for breast. My husband will go with me. Dr. gave me 1 tab 2mg. Valium, but not sure that will do it. Thanks for the help.

I finally located this QVC+ channel, only to find that they are also showing gardening (Plow & Hearth). Kind of dumb to run similar programming simultaneously, IMO.

That's a big dose - if you're not used to taking it I'd recommend .5mg, get a pill splitter.
