I agree they look way too tight on the model. Maybe sizing up would help. 

I disagree that all ponte looks cheap. I like ponte in jackets and blazers. I have a couple in solid colors that look very nice, and I like the comfort of the stretch. I think it depends on the quality of the fabric and the construction of the garment.
