To tell is apps are open, double click the home button. This will make your screen smaller, and then if apps are open you will see them sowing in small screen they are lined up one after another. To close the apps touch the small screen app and at the same time push up. That's how you turn them off (close them). You should always try to do this when you are done using apps, as it helps to save battery power.

You can delete an app that you downloaded completely by touching an holding the app on the home screen. Then you will see little "x" on the comer off all apps that can be deleted. Click on the app you want to delete, and a pop up will ask if you want to delete. Say yes. Once an app is completely deleted, you won't receive requests for updates for that app in the App Store. BTW, if ever you want that app again, you go to the App Store and click on purchased. You will see a cloud icon next to the app. Just click on the cloud to re download it. So although you remove it from your physical iPad by deleting it, it is always available to you again in your cloud.

You should look for the iPad user manual in the iBooks store. It's a free download. This will probably help you a lot in learning how to use your iPad.

Good. Glad that seemed to help for now. All apps open since 2012, yikes. I wouldn't be surprised if you need a battery replacement soon. That could be another reason for the flickering? But I guess enjoy that the iPad is working fine for now. And please...look for the user manual in iBooks. Read it, please. You will learn a lot about how to use the device.

I'm a relative cyber-dope, and I actually find that my iPad is pretty immune to my mistakes. That's one of the reasons I'm so happy with it. The FREE user book has really been a help for me. Great tip, lynn!!!
