iPhoto

I'd like to create folders for my photos so I stay organized. I used Picasa3 with my HP desktop and it worked great. I know there is a Mac version of Picasa and may end up using it if I can't figure this out. With iPhoto, the pictures are transfered before I have a change to create a folder. I know I can create one later and put the pictures in it but, it's not as easy for me. Does anyone know how I can get iPhoto to do what I want?
