I recently installed a Ring video doorbell and really like it. But, I am having a problem. When I'm away from my home network and get a notice of motion or a doorbell ring at my front door, my iPhone automatically looks for and trys to connect to another Wifi signal. It's usually an Xfinitywifi signal which is broadcasted in a lot of places. That would be fine if it worked but it usually it doesn't. I have to go into my setting, Wifi, forget this network and then my phone switches to a cellular connection. In the meantime, the motion or person at the front door has moved on.
I wonder if there is a way to stop my phone from trying to connect to available Wifi without turning off the "ask to join network" option. Does anyone know?

@glb613, I have no answer but would like to hear about your doorbell setup. Can you tell what it is and how it works? TIA. LM

Sure. I had a hard wired doorbell and I replaced with with the Ring Video doorbell. You can also use it on battery if you don't have power. The installation of the doorbell is easy. Everything you need is included in the kit. The instruction are very clear and easy to follow. It took less than 30 minutes from start to end.
You download the app, add your device to your wireless network (which means you must know your wireless network security password) then adjust your settings. I also have it set for motion detection and I'm still trying to get the range right. Too small and it doesn't detect well. Too large and it detects everything. There is a Live Feed option you can select which turns on the camera and you can see what's in range. So far, I like it.
There is also the option of storing all recordings in the cloud for $30 a year for one device. I decided that's a bargain and signed up. You can e-mail the video, send it through messenger, post to Facebook and save. That would be a great thing if your home was burglarized or vandalized and you want to send the video to the police. We had a neighborhood meeting and the policeman who came said multiple home burglaries have been solved because of video from a security systems like a video doorbell. So far, I like it. The only problem I'm having is with my iPhone trying to find another Wifi network instead of using cellular when I'm out of range of my home network.
I don't want you to think I live in a crime infested neighborhood because I don't. But, there has been an uptick in crime city wide the police claim is related to drug addiction. Heroin addicts needing money for their fix will do what it takes.

@glb613, thank you for the detailed description. I would be interested in something like this.
I would like to see who is at the door, not only for security reasons but because I need to deal with the dog most of the time. I also had something stolen from my manger scene at Christmas but I doubt this would solve that issue. The manger scene was close to the street and my driveway is a bit long.
Off to google and see if this is available in Canada. LM
