iPad or iPhone???

I saw a similar thread on tablet vs. laptop. My issue is this: I'd like to get either the new iPhone or an iPad. I currently only have a "regular" cell phone (no smart phone). I was considering upgrading. But then I also started considering an iPad. I wouldn't do both (at least not any time soon). For those of you who have both, what do you prefer and why??? I'd appreciate any advice and/or comments. Thanks so much!!!
